Dwyer freshman Shane Monroe was promoted to the varsity, but the Panthers didn't know just how much the 5-foot4 forward would be able to contribute. After just four games, Monroe leads the Panthers in scoring with five goals and two assists. "It's been pretty tough, but my team and my coaches have been helping me adjust and supporting me," Monroe said. It didn't take long for Monroe to show the Panthers that he would be an asset to the team. He scored two goals in Dwyer's 5-3 victory vs.

Fort Pierce-Central last week. "That was pretty exciting because I had no idea how I'd do," he said. "I though that I'd do OK, but I had no idea I'd do this good. The game is a lot different between JV and varsity. In varsity, you have to move the ball a lot quicker." marcusnelsonpbpost.com By Marcus Nelson Palm Beach Post Staff Writer The Jupiter boys soccer team 1 wasn't fazed when it started the by losing to two of its biggest rivals, William T.

Dwyer and Palm Beach Gardens. The Warriors, who only have three seniors on their roster, knew they still were in the maturing process during those games. "Those are our rivals, but winning wasn't the priority," said coach Chris Rue. "It more a matter of jelling." Undaunted by its 0-2 start, Jupiter knew quality victories would come. However, the Warriors may not have anticipated that three of those victories would come in a seven-day span, but that's exactly what happened.

"I think they knew all along that we would be competitive because we have players, and now we're there," Rue said. The Warriors are led by junior Drew Helm, who has 14 goals and five assists. Helm, who scored five goals vs. Palm Beach Lakes, is back playing soccer this year after taking last season off to play basketball. "He's a heck of an athlete and soccer has been his main passion, but he wanted to take a year off last year," Rue said.

"He took his year and I think he realized that soccer might be the thing for him to do if he was going to concentrate and get really, really good at it. He's done a very good job this year." Buckman, who wrestles at 160 pounds, has won all six of his matches by pin this season, all in the first period.

He won his division at the Jacksonville-Episcopal tournament two weekends ago. Buckman has an impressive resume, having won the 152-pound title at the Large School League Championship last season while wrestling for Long-wood High in New York, the alma mater of Olympian Kerry McCoy. Buckman was selected the outstanding wrestler in five tournaments last season before moving to South Florida with his family. His six pins to start this season are no real surprise, though, because he recorded a 37-second pin in his first varsity match when he was an eighth-grader. His next competition is not until the Hendry County tournament Jan.
