Another communication from the mayor relative to fire alarm box keys was iu- ceived, as follows: LEBANON, Feb. 1, 1897. To tbe Honorable Councils of the City of Lebanon, Pa. order to have our Fire Alarm Svstem entirely tinder control of the Superintendent, I ordered Mr. John O.

Oliver, the present Sup't to collect from the fire companies ti-e keys, held by their drivers, to the indicator boxes, BO as to be positive that no one could disarrange the workings of the indicator, 'and if then the alarm failed to work properly we couW hold the superintendent responsible for its failure. Mr. Oliver reports to me that he bus received tho kevt, from the following companies: Perseverance, Hook Lad der and Rescue Hose Co. He reports that the driver of the Union Fire Co. informs him that the key he has was mislaid or lost.

Tho Liberty Fire Uo. driver reports tbe same. The Chemical Engine Co. was never in possession of key. I understand that duplicate keys have been madw by some of the firemen to use on the indicator boxes, and as there is a penalty for doins this I would ask if you want to proceed against any who may have had such keys made.

It is very imporjaut that Iho keys still missing from the two above companies are turned over to the superia- tendent of fire alarm. I would instruct yonr City Property committee to see that the missing keys are found at once. I was very mech surprised to learn from Mr. Oliver that the two new potrolmtn have not been provided with keys to the alarm boxes, his reason for the failure to provide them with keys being that he was instructed by the chairman of the City Property committee that he should make no more purchases until the next fiecnl year, as the appropriation was exhausted As it is very important that we have more keys. I would ask thut the committee lit once instruct the superintendent to order them.
