With a large area of undeveloped land; with only a few towns and no large cities, and with a present population of only 5,082, Collier County has nevertheless created some near-miracles in good management and tax reduction during the last 21 years. As an example of the benefits of good public management Collier County might well be studied by the 1945 Legislature, by other Florida Counties and cities and by the nation as a whole. Here are a few typical facts: Since 1929 taxes have been reduced from a high of $405,225, or $143 per capita, to $50,402, or $9.90 per capita.

Taxes since 1923, when the levy amounted to $125,296, or $74.49 per capita, have been 100 collected. Bonded indebtedness of Collier County has been reduced from a high of $3,614,406 in 1929 to $293,700 in 1944. And even though the taxpayers of Collier County considered the $50,979 tax levy of 1943 as the acme of good management, the Collier County Board of County Commissioners succeeded in slashing another 1.1 reduction from that figure when the 1944 levy was assessed. All of this was accomplished while a program of road and school construction and improvement was in progress-and without Federal Aid because Collier County takes pride in its slogan: "Collier County Cares For Her Own." In subsequent advertisements we will discuss in- detail the various aspects of the Collier County Board of Commissioner's achievements in good management.
