i 1 1 v- r- t. (- v' l-- BC THE PALM BEACH POST TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1995 Fishing Report BY GREG FORRER Fishing Report Zones I Turnpike A 1 1 Fort Pinrca i mQ Okeechobee -n 1 Stuart Port Salerno, "Squeeky" Kelly reported inshore activity on red-fish to 29Vi inches, and trout to 6 pounds using DOA Lures' new "Terror" artificial on the flats behind Sailfish Point. At the St. Lucie Inlet, Kelly suggested the last two hours of incoming tide and the first two of the outgoing as a time slot to use the same lure and target jack crevalle at 12-15 pounds "up against the rocks." 3. NORTHERN P.B.

COUNTY Early morning surf fishing is good for pompano with sand fleas, or cut mullet for bluefish, from the "Double Roads" area north to the Jupiter Inlet. Bottom fishing on the Blue Heron driftboats have yielded as many as 25 mutton snapper (2 to 1 0 pounds) a trip, and average yellowtail snapper catches of 30 fish in the 1- to 3-pound range. 4. SOUTHERN P.B. COUNTY Some kingfish were caught off Boynton Inlet in 90 feet.

They averaged 12 pounds and were caught drifting sardines. 5. FRESHWATER LAKES Steadily productive large-mouth bass fishing in Lake Clarke, Lake Osborne and Lake Ida was highlighted by a 7-pound weigh-in administered by Tom Atchison of High Tide Bait, Tackle and Smokehouse in West Palm Beach. "The big one was caught on a rubber worm, tequila sunrise color," said Atchison. Also on Lake Osborne and Lake Clarke, fishing for black crappie (specks) has been on the up swing, mainly for smaller fish.

Use live Missouri minnows for bait. 6. LAKE OKEECHOBEE Sales of live Missouri minnows have nearly doubled, the best indication black crappie activity is on the rise, reports Bubba Helton of Garrard's Tackle in Okeechobee. "They're catching some nice ones in Taylor Creek," Helton said. Best fishing is accomplished in 12-14 feet with the minnows fished at about a 9-foot depth.

Also try slow jigging with green speckled jigs using not more than 6- to 8-pound test line. Guides Larry Wright and Buck Durrance, fishing mostly live wild shiners, have found fishing Buckhead Canal to Tin House Cove productive. Hel ton reports two recent trips producing approximately 55 large-mouth bass each. At the south end of the lake, Dick Williams of Clewiston's Jolly Roger Marina reported "lots of 4-to 5-pound" largemouth bass, with one fish weighing in at 9 pounds, 2 ounces during the weekend. "Guide Bobby Sutton has been taking some nice strings on wild shiners," Williams said.

"Many of the bass are back in the jungle, quite a few in Moonshine Bay." For specks, Williams suggests using live minnows to fish the milky water between the dirty and the clear. "Speck fishermen have been putting up some better numbers recently, fishing that way around Harney Pond Canal, near the twin markers," Williams said. 1. ST. LUCIE COUNTY Fishing the grass flats on the east side of the Indian River from Jenning's Cove to south of Herman's Bay produced spotted seatrout.

Redfish mostly smaller were concentrated on the west side of the river from the Fort Pierce town line south to Walton Road, live shrimp being the best bait. Snook fishermen have preferred a redtail hawk-type lure with flare tail from 1 'i to 2 ounces, casting near structure bridges, sea walls or rocky points. Offshore, bottom fishermen caught some mangrove and mutton snapper in 65-80 feet at the "northeast grounds." 2. MARTIN COUNTY From Pirate's Cove Marina in 1 S.
