A state laboratory in Lantana diagnosed two cases; Boca Raton Community Hospital diagnosed the third.

Two of the women were among the 272 people who have called the Palm Beach County Health Unit to report having one or more of the symptoms associated with cyclospora, said Dr. Jean Malecki, health unit director. Becky Jean Somnitz, 42, was found floating near the south dock at Blowing Rocks Marina around midnight. An autopsy was scheduled late Monday afternoon, but the results were not available. Martin County sheriffs Detective Tim Fury said Somnitz was last seen alive at about 10 p.m.

She and her boyfriend, Jim Metzger, had joined other boat owners at the marina for barbecued ribs and beer earlier Sunday. "There was a lot of drinking going on," Fury said. "Some witnesses said she was slightly intoxicated." Friends told Fury that Somnitz was visiting friends on one boat docked at the marina and left around 10 p.m. to go to Metzger's boat, which was tied up on the other side of the dock. Metzger reportedly was asleep inside his boat and no one realized Somnitz was missing until her WPBZ turns to alternative rock format By SCOTT BENARDE Palm Beach Post Music Writer Say goodbye to Z-Rock and hello to The Buzz.

At 1 p.m. Monday, West Palm Beach radio station WPBZ (103.1 FM), better known as Rock, became the third South Florida mainstreamclassic rock station in the past several months to change to a pure alternative rock format. That means bye-bye to Molly Hatchet and ACDC and hello to Nirvana, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Live and other related acts. Now called The Buzz, the station joins (and competes with) Broward County-based WSHE (103.5 FM) and Dade County-based WZTA (94.9 FM) as the area's alternative rock stations. "We're going to give the audience what it has been demanding," new Program Director Amy Doyle said.

"There's a hole in the market for a pure alternative radio station. It's the hottest format in the country now." The format change also means no more canned music via satellite from Texas. The station will be hiring a staff of on-air personalities, said Operations Manager Gary Hess. The station's new owner, Palm Beach Radio Broadcasting Inc. (whose majority shareholder is National Enquirer CEO Peter Callahan) planned the change several months ago, Hess said, but the FCC didn't approve the deal until Friday; The Amaturo Group previously owned the station.

Dr. Luis Cenedese, 37, is accused in federal court documents of hiring another man, Dominick Anthony Caruso, to extort the money from Zane Balsam, president of the now-defunct United Benefit Group Inc. The company, which moved to Boca Raton from Fort Lauderdale in November, sold Cenedese a phony life insurance policy, according to court records. Cenedese plans to sue to recover his $100,500 investment, Dan Brodersen, the attorney who represented him in court Monday, told U.S. Magistrate Ann Vitunac.

Caruso of Winter Park, who allegedly threatened Balsam with violence, is also charged with extortion in the case. 1 A BAD CASE. The count, set for today, will include Lake Osborne and John Prince Park in Lake Worth and many more backyard butterfly gardens, said Ann Kilmer, who helped organize the local count. No formal groups are designated to count at Lake Osborne or John Prince Park, but anyone wanting to do so is welcome, Kilmer said. In addition, all home butterfly gardeners are asked to send in counts regardless of whether their gardens are in the counting circles, Kilmer said.

That way, the local butterfly coalition can put together a wider range of information. O) The two counting circles are shown at left.
