The wives, husbands and children of sheriff's office employees also may ride out the storm inside the two-story concrete jail turned makeshift hurricane shelter, Sheriff Robert Crowder said. "One of the things we learned from the folks who went through Hurricane Andrew was that, especially after the storm, if our people don't know the well-being of their own family, they can't concentrate on what they're supposed to do," Crowder said. "If our deputies are out there finding bodies without knowing about their own relatives, they cannot effectively do their he said. This is the second year the jail has been available as a shelter for families of sheriff's employees.

MARSHALL 78, retired chairman of the Houston Electronics Corporation, founder and chairman of the Marshall Stamping Company died Wednesday, June 28, 1995 in Pittsburgh, PA after a long illness. A resident of West Palm Beach, FL for the last 17 years, he had extensive business experience during the course of his career. He was born December 2, 1916 in Pittsburgh, PA the son of The Honorable Elder W.

and Bessie Irvine Marshall. He was a member of the Everglades Club, the Beach Club and the English Speaking Union. He attended the Arnold School and was a graduate and former board member of The Valley Forge Military Academy '35, and a graduate Trustee Emeritus of Washington and Jefferson College '39 from which he also received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws. In 1941, he received a certificate in Metallurgy from Pennsylvania State University. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and served at various times on its national board.

In 1939, he became a sales trainee at the Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation and a sales correspondent in Detroit in 1940. A student at the United States Naval Academy from 1941 to 1942, he served in the Navy from 1941 to 1945 aboard the USS Wyoming and the USS Fall River and advanced to the rank of Lieutenant. In 1951 Mr. Marshall formed the Marshall Stamping Company which produced steel accessories for the home building industry and formed the Houston Electronics Corporation in 1961. A manufacturer of electronic parts and components, Houston Electronics played a significant part in space programs, having had some of its products used in both Telstar One, Telstar Two, Ranger Four, all Mercury Capsules, the Apollo and the Mariner Programs.

In 1967, Houston Electronics Corporation merged with the Walter Kidde Corporation. Mr. Marshall was a member of the founding committee which formed the Pittsburgh Penguins, a professional hockey team. Also an avid golfer, he was past president of the National Golf Association and a past member of the executive committee of the AllAmerican Collegiate Golf Foundation. Keenly interested in Colonial American history, he was an active member of The Society of Colonial Wars and The Sons of the American Revolution.

Mr. Marshall was a member of the Navy League, a fellow of the American Institute of Management, a member of the President's Council on Physical Fitness during the Reagan administration, and and was an ambassador to the Young Astronauts Program. He was a former fellow of the President's Council of the American Institute of Management, a past director of Bloom Engineering Corporation of Pittsburgh, a former member of the Ceres Breeding Society Inc. at Mt. Howe, TX, and a former president of the Amen Corner in 1966, and a member of its Board of Governors from 1961 to 1965.

Always interested in Republican causes, he was an active participant on the local and national level. In addition, Mr. Marshall received the Humanitarian Award from Farleigh Dickinson University, the David Ben Gurion Award, and was a Knight of Malta. Surviving are his daughter, Corinne M. Babson of Pittsburgh; his two sons, Houston B.

Marshall, Jr. of St. Augustine, and Robert E. Marshall of Ligonier, PA; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted 1 pm Monday, July 3, at the Shadyside Presbyterian Church with family visitation one hour prior.
