Nevertheless there is a plant, or rather herb, growing 'here which Is really Insectivorous. It Is likely that on account of Its being extremely small ft has escaped notic e. This Is an annum herb and1 the entire plant, including tihe flower, is of a deep, rich redcolor. It rarely reaches a freight of more than three Inches and to DAvr ort hrnnfl.

Gllkyson Informs the Register that with competition the extra lines north to Portland and south' to Roseburg the business centers of the valley will get much Improve! service. Here in Eugene the work of putting the tliy on a complete cable system, which Is now well under way, is responsible for much of the trouble causing unsatisfactory service. He says in making the change they are forced to come Into contact with live wires, but it cannot be helped. The proces Is entirely different from that of Installing a new plant. Until the work Is complete many applicants for new phones ure requited Do wait be cause It Is Impossible to give them the service until the equipment Is In; Mr.

Gilkvson savs when the new sys tem is finished Eugene will have the finest In the state and the facilities will be improved fully 75 per cent. When the new switch board I installed in new quarters tlio operation room will be completely isolated from the public thereby alone increasing the efficiency of the service fully 25 per cent. Mr. Gllkyson says If the Kugene public will be. patient a little while longer all the features that have been unsatisfactory will have been elim inated.

AMUSEMENTS SIS HOPKINS There is much sweet sentiment in Sis Hopkins, that delightful rural comedy which comes to Jugene theatre on Wednesday, December 9 for an engagement, with Miss Rose Melville, the originator of the quaint country girl, uvmg the titlo role. The sentiment is one of the kind wlii Hi appeals to one '8 finer feelings, and this with Miss Melville siip-urb acting and the clean comedy of the play, has made it the marvelous success which it is. This is the tenth season that Sis Hopkins has been presented and everywhere Miss Melville is greeted with crowded houses Tile story of the play is not complicated by nny social problems. It is a plain, unvarnished tale of the simple life of the people of Posey conntv, In diana, where Sis was born and brought up. In the netinn of the piece there comes into the life of this homo-body girl, an unscrupulous man, who trading on her affections, endeavors to defraud her of a pitifully small bit of nioadow hind.

Discovering his treachery Sis, whose philosophy brightens the play, loaves her homo to go into tlio world t- learn at first hand what it really is like. Clad in tli3 homespun of the farm she departs, nnd when she returns it n-i the accomplished, beautifully gowned young woman of the world who however, has lose none of her gentility or purity of diameter. The play abounds situations which are thrilling in their dramatic intensity; it brims with de-locnbo comedy nnd quaint philosophy. There isn't a falso note in it, nnd Miss Melville's art in tlio portrayal of the character of Sis gives to the drnma a finish which makes it perfect. Miss Melville's mnnnger, Mr.

.1. R. Sterling, ha given the play a scenic production this season which is exuisitely artistic.
