Many inexpensive craft materials arc available. Colored tissue paper can be crumpled for colorful balls, or formed into flowers. Paper cups become stars and bells with a minimum of effort. For stars, cut the sides of the cup into thin strips from top to base; flatten, decorate the bottom of the cup (center of the star) with sequins or beads, and hang. Cups are used whole for the bells. Invert the cup and add a chipper. "Don't decorate a tree in one burst of enthusiasm," a professional trimmer advises. "Instead of wearing yourself out in one evening, spread the trimming over several. Don't invite friends in to a trimming party until you're down to the last stage hanging the icicles." The order of decoration he recommends: "Lights first, then the garlands to shape the the patterns ynu want (and I like to hang them in swags), the ornaments, and finally the icicles, not thrown at the tree l-ut hung a few at a time." Scale tree size to room size, he added. The pro is partial to artificial trees for centrally heated apartments and houses. There is the safety factor. There are shopping expeditions ahead, holiday dinner parties to be planned, and keeping the kids out of the closet where the Christmas gifts are hidden will require constant patrol and some quick answers. Here, from the makers of Bayer Aspirin, are a few helpful suggestions for taking the strain out of the holiday season. Make a list of what has to be done and spread the tasks out over a number of days. On days when you are entertain ing try to rest for at least a half hour before guests arrive. Give yourself a facial, and take your time dressing. You'll not only look better, you will feel better and your guests will relax more easily too. Stop and rest at reasonable intervals. Don't skip lunch and above all, if you're taking the kids to see Santa, don't plan on making it a heavy day of shopping as well. The jingles will sound jangled if you do. Ease those muscle aches at night before retiring by taking two aspirins, and a warm bath. Keep in mind, too, that you can cut down your shopping mileage by using the catalogues that many stores send. t i t i 8 WILLSON'S TV 5000 So.
