Palm Boca Port, Thgxfay, Nov. a, Bti-Q West Germans See Soviets Doubling Military Options By WELLINGTON LONG BONN (UPI)-As the West Germans see it, the Soviet Unioo has doubled Its military options with the invasion of Czechoslovakia. Rassia now has 16 more divisions west of the Vistula River and the Carpathian Mountatas than were there before the Aug. 21 march into Czechoslovakia. Before Aug. 21, say German analysts, the main thrust of any surprise Russian attack against Western Europe would have been supported by the 20 Soviet divisions in East Germany and the four maintained in Poland, and woula have been launched from the Thufthgia platform or bulge. Now, the Russians could as easily launch a surprise attack from Czechoslovakia across the flatlands of central Bavaria. This means, the analysts say, that Western forces will have to be redeployed, and that particularly those of the Americans and Germans in Bavaria should be moved farther east. The Germans predict the Russians will leave about 10 divisions comprising perhaps 120,000 men in Western Czechoslovakia on a semi-permanent basis. They share the view of U.S.' Gen. Lyman B. Lemnitzer, NATO's Supreme Allied Commander, Europe, who told the NATO meeting in Brussels last week that "the military balance in central Europe has been significantly altered to the disadvantage of the West." A source dose to Defense Minister Gerhard Schroeder says be was trying to get the other NATO ministers meeting in the Belgian capital to agree to this analysis of the relative improvement of the Soviet position and the weakening of the Western. Bat the Germans do not believe they can achieve more than agreement to a freeze of NATO forces at present levels': AVE OVER $100 ON THI ' OUTLINE Q ILTED C0NVERTA SOFA t7 L-jo? vli it. : oas1 iK-t?a.
