Alico Land 18 i 19 i Aloe Creme Labs 8 NEW YORK (API - The stock market carved out another gain Wednesday an irregular one because the widely quoted Dow Jones industrial average took a loss. The closely watched average of 30 blue-chip industrials fell 3.17 to 976.32. Analysts called it profit taking on blue chips, whose gains had pushed the average to new highs for the year on two successive sessions. This was to be expected, they said, especially in view of market closings for Thanksgiving Day today and the usual practice for many Wall Streeters to take Friday off after a Thursday holiday. Many investors evened up their positions. Such veteran analysts as Eugene E. Peroni. vice president of McDonnell & Co.. and Larry Wachtler. head of the news desk at Bache & Co.. expressed confidence that the Dow industrials would hit the elusive goal of 1.000 within the reasonable future the only question being "When?" Other market indicators made new highs. More stocks rose than fell on the New York Stock Exchange. Volume was 16.55 million shares compared with 16.36 million Tuesday. The Associated Press average of 60 stocks rose .8 to 365.-2. a new high for the year, w ith industrials up .1 and rails up 1.7 both tonew 1968 highs while utilities dipped .3. Of 1.584 issues traded on the New York Stock Exchange, 776 rose, and 586 fell. New highs for the year toiuled 185 and new lows two.
