Advertisement By Dorothy Cabanus Let me preface this review by .saying that when a co taster (CT) and myself go to a restaurant it is to look around, chat and leave! Not so at Phillips SeatixxJ Restaurant. The food is terrific, the service is great, everyone, (not just your wait stall) are so genuinely friendly, that we ended up staying two and a half hours. Had we been able to cram another bite in us. we'd probably still be there. What a delightful evening! We were politely met and promptly sealed. It's very clean and there are unusual decorative touches everywhere - lovely plants, wooden carousel horses. Very eclectica. They seat 300, but the dining rooms are broken into small areas that give an ambiance of intimacy. And the chairs are comfortable. The fxxl? You could spend hours salivating over the menu! They're open for lunch & dinner fnn 1 1 :30 Mon.-Fri. and dinner only Sat. & Sun. from 4:30pm. The tarty Bird specials, offered 4:30-6pm (7 Days) are special values CX.95-M2.95 inclusive of salad, entree, dessert, and beverage. Well, pretty soon they had to add picnic tables outside, and finally they opened a restaurant. They now have eight restaurants in Maryland, D.C, and Virginia, two of which seat 1400 people, and the one here in West Palm Bench. All their children and grandchildren are involved, and they have crab packing plants all over the world. Most of the recipes are Mrs. Phillip's originals, and boy! Can she cook. Nothing, by the way, (and mercifully, to those of us who do not appreciate "hot" Hxxls) is overly spiced, though you can get your tlsh blackened if you wish. Desserts, yes, we made the sacrifice, only for you. our readers. CT ordered the Key Lime pie 03.25) which is pretty gixxf. Not like mother used to make, but good for a restaurant. I had the original peanut butter pie, '3.25, outrageously fattening and sinfully gixxl. I got the first bite. CT reached for a taste, put the plate in front of her and guarded it to keep me away! I finally got it hack only to hear "Did you drop your napkin'?" Silly Cocktail f.95. which CT ordered. It was wonderf ul. I had mushroom caps stuffed with Crab Imperial. "6.95. Very good, but I envied every bit of her half pound (yep. they weighed 'em) of crab claws and mustard sauce. Because we really wanted to taste it, they brought us a half a cup of Cream of Crab soup, to share '3.25 a cup, v4.25 a bowl. It's exactly that, a thin cream, lots of crab, and a little seasoning. Very delicate. They also had a vegetable crab, tomato base, and a New England chowder which on its way past our table kx)ked and smclled gorgeous. For your salad try their homemade, bleu cheese dressing. Entrees -. what a decision. Everything sounded good. Their very personal manager. Keith McConnell. suggested Maryland Crab Cakes, "16.95, which CT ordered. She gave me two bites (I had to beg for the second one), and almost inhaled tlie rest. They were outstanding. Fresh crabmeat and no fillers. Out of this world, and I'll go there again just for the crabcakes. Her side dish of asparagus was perfectly cooked, al dente, and the coleslaw slaw light, and good, not sugary. The broiled seafood platter was suggested to me ( a bargain for M9.95) with crabcake, a small crab imperial, fresh filet of fish, clams casino and shrimp, but 1 had gone weak in the knees when I saw a pound of stone crab claws with mustard sauce, because I know the season for them is almost over. They were perfectly cooked, and i made such a mess of myself that I used CT's glass water (to the horror of the waiter) as a linger bowl, though they thoughtfully pmvide wipes for you. I ate no side dishes... no mom for them. For you non-seafixxl kivers, they offer steaks f 15.95 to M7.95), and chicken alfredo on the Early Bird was M0.95. However, unless you have a seafood allergy, don't deny yourself their specialty. Their fresh fish, M3.95 to M5.95, can be stuffed with crabmeat for an additional s4.5() and you can enjoy the best of everything.
