Willem Dafoe plays the villain, ship designer and jewel thief. B Prefontaine (PG-13, 1997) Steve James had great success with interviews in his documentary Hoop Dreams, but in his feature film about Steve Prefontaine, the miler from Oregon Qared Leto), he makes the blunder of creating bogus interviews to define his character. This is the story of a young man who won fame and died at 24. B Bliss (R, 1997) Sheryl Lee, who's never found her footing since starring in Twin Peaks, plays a newly-wed with a closetful of secrets. Craig Sheffer plays her confused husband, and Terence Stamp and Spalding Gray play psychiatrists. Early Waterfront hi o fV-'-t Dining MORE THAN FRIENDS: Julia Roberts, Dermot Mul-roney and Rupert Everett provide the laughs in My Best Friend's Wedding. MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING mm Your Choice Just as she did, say, in Mary Reilly. No doubt Roberts was the main draw when the movie was in theaters, but as Wedding hits video stores the word is probably out that Roberts gives only the third best performance. She is topped by her rival, the sunny, spunky Cameron Diaz, who will have you rooting for her as she submits to the horrors of karaoke for the love of her man. And the whole movie is stolen away by Rupert Everett, as Roberts' other best friend, a gay sidekick with martini-dry comic delivery. HAPERSTEIN The summer's runaway romantic comedy hit is likely to score again this winter on video, since moviegoers cannot get enough of Julia Roberts for some reason. In My Best Friend's Wedding, which comes out Tuesday, she plays a celebrated food critic who gets knocked for a loop when her lifelong pal (Dermot Mulroney) announces his nuptial plans, just as Roberts realizes she's in love with him. To her credit, the thick-lipped beauty risks losing all audience sympathy, for she resorts to some nasty and far-fetched tricks to break up the marriage. Relax, she doesn't put herself in too bad a light, ,-- ' s F TLA Y . , ' -4 w THE VIDEO COLLECTOR B Stowaway in the Sky (1962) In Albert Lamorisse's sequel to his Red Balloon, a grandfather and his stowaway grandson tour France in another balloon. NIGHTS A MONSTER MESS: The Blob goes high-tech in the 1988 remake of the 1958 sci-fi thriller.. Flubber, which was initially titled The Absent Minded-Professor, like the 1961 original with Fred MacMurray, was No. 1 at the box office last week. The latest John Hughes remake casts Robin Williams as the accidental inventor of a bouncy, protean substance that takes its name from "flying rubber." If you find yourself stuck on the idea, here are some other sticky substance videos you might want to see. fl The Blob (R, 1958) Steve McQueen stars in this sci-fi thriller about a small town's fight against a live malignant life-form that crashes to earth. The Blob eats anything and everything that moves. A remake, The Blob (R, 1988) stars Kevin Dillon. B Chostbusters (PG, 1984) Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver star in this funny and sometimes frightening film about a special organization that fights evil spirits. The ghosts fight back with slime. B The Toxic Avenger (R, 1986) A tongue-in-cheek cult favorite about a 98-pound weakling who falls into a barrel of toxic waste to emerge as a hulk . B It Happens Every Spring (1949) Ray Milland plays a chemistry professor who puts substance on a baseball bat and it helps people become major home run hitters. B Son of Flubber (G, 1963) A sequel to The Absent Minded Professor with Fred MacMurray still toying with his invention, Flubber, which this time comes as Flubbergas. Those who inhale it, float away. George Burns is in this one. The Crab Pot 386 E. Blue Heron Blvd. (Under The Singer Island Bridge) 8442722 Free Valet Parking Nightly
