AD I Special To The Posl MIAMI - Darel Carrier - a 6- foot-3 guard from Western Kentucky University hit seven three-point plays and finished the game with 53 points to lead the Kentucky Colonels to a pulsating, 120-119, American Basketball Association win over Miami Floridians at Miami Beach Convention Hall Monday night. The loss was the Floridians fifth against four wins while the Colonels improved their mark to 7- 5. Olabarri Triples Olabarri scored three victories in his first four starts to tie for third place in the win col umn as far as points Monday night at the Palm Beach Jai Alai Fronton. Ulacia and Orma-za are tied for first place with six wins followed by Aretio and Olabarri, who is in his first year here. Wake Forest Coach Quits WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) Bill Tate resigned Monday as head football coach at Wake Forest University after never having a winning season in his five-year tenure. The resignation, effective after next Saturday's game at flonda state University, which will end the season for Wake Forest, was accepted by the athletic council. Tate said his assistants also are resigning with him, and the chairman of the council said none would be considered to succeed Tate. Tate came to Wake Forest after eight years as an assistant at his alma mater, the University of Illinois. Tate's best year was his first, when Wake Foret won five and lost five. This year's team has won two, lost six and tied one. In his five years at Wake Forest, his record is 17 victories, 31 losses and one tie. (AP) -Penny Ann Early, who is hoping to become the first woman to ride in a falt-track thoroughbred race, was listed Monday as a jockey Tuesday's ninth race at Churchill Downs. Miss Early, 25, was assigned to no deficit in the claiming race for 3-year-olds. She had been expected to ride Bo Tree in the first race at Churchill Downs last Saturday. But the colt was scratched Saturday morning due to a muddy track. Prospects that Miss Early would ride Saturday gave rise to opposition by some jockeys.
