An official announcement Monday said the unmanned spacecraft landed Sunday in the Soviet Union the world's first return on land from lunar space. The only other spaceship recovered after being shot around the moon was Zond 5. which splashed down in the Indian Ocean Sept. 21 and was recovered the next day. Soviet authorities delayed a day before announcing the landing. They did not say exactly where in the Soviet Union it had come down, only Jane Russell's Husband Dies HOLLYWOOD (APi - Actress Jane Russell's bridegroom of less than three months, actor Roger Barrett. 47. died Monday of an apparent heart attack. He complained of intense pains about 7:30 a m., and Miss Russell ran to a sister-in law's nearby home in suburban Van Nuys for help. When she returned Barrett apparently was dead. The seven-day Zond 6 shot around the moon and back brought Soviet science another step closer to a manned moon flight. "The Zond 6 return, if we can judge by the first announcement, represents a higher order of skill,'-' commented a Western d plomat who watches space developments. "This makes it look as if the Zond, if it is big enough, could be capable of a manned lunar return." The official announcement said Zond 6 twice entered the earth's atmosphere to brake its 2,500-mile-per-hour descent. The first dip into denser at-mosphere slowed the spaceship from 6.8 miles per second to 4 miles a second, the announcement added. The aerodynamic braking system then guided it back to a ballistic path in space from which it made a second entry. Without giving exact details of how it was done, the announcement said Zond 6 then made a "controlled descent with the use of aerodynamical qualities which insured its return to the earth in the preset district." The return is the latest development in a busy Soviet space program which in the past two months has been the launching and recovery of Zond 5. a manned Soyuz 3 space flight and the sending into orbit of the 17-ton proton-4 space station last Saturday. The announcement said Zond 6 had completed a program which included: Flight around the moon at a distance of 1,500 miles, 291 miles further out than Zond 5. Scientific exploration along the route of flight. Testing the spaceship's operation in flight and the system of controlled descent with use of aerodynamic lift. Sun Pkoto By Tony lift WELCOME TO PALM BEACH COUNTY! - Germany staged a small-scale invasion of Palm Beach County Monday when 11 travel agents and tour directors stopped off for a brief visit. Welcoming Miss Renate Braun, right, of Nuremberg to the sunny Palm Beaches is Mary Norris, convention director for the Palm Beach County Development Board. THANKS FOR 43 OF THE VOTE I AM GRATEFUL FOR YOUR VOTE OF CONFIDENCE GILBERT BROPHY ATTORNEY this the Gold Coast," one man whispered. Wombacher said that many Germans were buying land in the Miami area, not to settle down, but to sell later for a profit. He noted that Fort Lauderdale had European youth market appeal and he was looking forward to scouting the area tonight. He and the others were very interested in the number of German-made cars on the U.S. roads. "Most Europeans think that this is the land of the big cars as well as the skyscraper," Wombacher said. After a brief rest, the travelers were back on the road, headed for Fort Lauderdale tonight, Miami Beach Tuesday and back to New York City for the flight to Germany He admitted that traveling in the United States was much more expensive than in Europe. "So much tipping; you tip everyone here. We are not used to that in Germany," he explained. There were a few groans from the travelers when a lunch of a ham-chicken concoction was served. "This must be the chicken tour," one man laughed. Wombacher confided that this was the sixth time they had been served chicken on the tour. The development board got down to business during dessert and expounded the virtues of living and vacationing in Palm Beach County. The agents were impressed by the number of golf courses, beaches and hotel accommodations, but expressed disbelief at the price of ocean front land. The Germans, sightseeing through the South courtesy of the U.S. Travel Service and the Southern Travel Directors Council, had lunch at the Ra-mada Inn, marveled at the Palm Beach Lakes golf course and listened to Palm Beach County sales talk from county Development Board Chairman Paul Thomson. The visitors, who toured Cape Kennedy ("it looks like a German installation," one remarked) earlier Monday, were still shivering from the memory of several inches of snow they experienced in Asheville, N.C. Although West Palm Beach was not a scheduled stop, the county Development Board wangled a lunch break for the tired travelers, who have been whisked through the South for the last 10 days. Thomson said at least two similar tours are scheduled through Florida in the spring and the board, through the Florida Development Commission, hopes to make West Palm Beach and other county cities a regular stop. Comfortably and informally dressed, the Germans commented they were "very impressed" with the South, and expressed regret that they could not stay several days in "such remarkable climate." Klaus Wombacher, a tour operator from Frankfurt, said his company plans to add a southern tour to the two it now sponsors to the north and Canada and coast-to-coast. "I like the entire south because of the people so very different from up north they are very friendly and helpful. And the landscape, beautiful, interesting and attractive," he said, waving a hand at the nearby golf course. Wombacher added, as he watched several golfers on the course, that golf in Germany has "snob appeal." He expressed an interest in the sport, but chided one woman golfer who was using a golf car instead of walking the course. "She needs the exercise," he laughed. Wombacher and his companions were not taking a "VIP tour," but one arranged for an average traveler's look at the South.
