The Navy is seeking to enlist or re-enlist qualified men with construction and building skills in the rank of chief, first, second or third class petty officer, according to Chief Frank Wiser, local recruiter. "The Navy netds Seabees, construction men," Chief Wiser said. "They are needed for the newly-reactivated Group VIII Seabee program." Rates will be determined by individual experience and length of service in skills comparable to those required by the Navy. "Basic training will be waived for the new Seabees who will enlist for 30 months," he said. "However, they will receive a four-week petty officer indoctrination course at Gulfport, Miss., which includes an abbreviated 'boot' camp course in water survival, military drill, orientation and general Navy topics." The Seabee program requires a minimum of 24 months experience and is open to most construction and maintenance type skills with particular interest in masons, carpenters, electricians, auto repairmen, surveyors, draftsmen, steelworkers, air conditioning and refrigeration mechanics, boilermen, plumbers, welders, heavy equipment operators, and telephone linemen and repairmen. More intormation may be had by contacting the local recruiting office at 524 S. Dixie Hwy. At Belle Glade the recruiter will be at the draft board between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. every first and third Monday of each month. IS -Palm Beach Post Monday, Nov. 18, 1968 Florida Expenses Climbing TALLAHASSEE UPI -State spending increases for the legislative department and educational programs have far out -stripped all other classifications in the past six years, according to figures from the State Planning and Budget Director's office. Statistics released by Budget Director Wallace Henderson showed that actual disbursements to the Legislature in 1962-63 were $2,832,063, while appropriations in the same classification for 1968-69 total $7,167,285, an increase of 253.1 percent. Six vears ago education costs to the state ran $257,321.-057. compared with $760,595.-564 in the current fiscal year. The increase amounts to a 195.5 per cent, the statistics showed. Entire state spending including state operations and aid to counties totaled $:!90.917.016 six years ago. while current appropriations are $990,189,685. an overall increase of 153.3 per cent. Assistant State Budget Director Joe Cresse first revealed the statistics in a seminar for legislators which sought to explain where state funds go and the pattern of increase over the years. Cresse told the lawmakers that new programs, accelerated growth in the state and increases in the cost of living account for the larger appropriations. Florida's population has increased almost three times that of the national average in that period, he said. The Sunshine State has experimented a percentage increase of 14.7 since 1962 compared with the percentage increase across tne nation of 5.8. Per capita income during the same period has grown 42.9 per cent, slightly less that the 51.9 per cent which has taken place in Florida.
