Palm Beach Post-Times, Sunday, Xov. 17, 1968 A9 Kremlin Hand Seen In Gomulka Re-Election As Polish Party Leader ister was named alternate member and central commit lee secretary in charge of security and Ihe armed forces. The extent of (lomulka's renewed hold on Ihe job ho has held since ltO) was illustra'ed by Ihe lad that only four new men were i lected to the 2r top jobs in the party's hierarchy. As expected, one of the men dropped from Ihe polilburo was Adam Kapacki, Ihe ailinR alt year-old foreign minister, who reportedly disagreed with the purge campaign and Ihe Soviet led invasion of Czechoslovakia. Changes were more evident in the expanded central com mit lee. More than 40 per cent of Ihe new members were either moved up from alternate membership or brought in directly. However, political observers suggested that Ihe advocates ol change in (he central committee would not be able to bring meaningful pressure to bear on Gomulka for Ihe time being. The new men entering the inner circle of power reflected the current hard line in Ihe Soviet Union and other orthodox communist countries and the Polish party's desire to bring in fresh blood from the provinces. Klevated to the 12 man politburo were Stanislaw Kociolek. Jozef Tejchma and W'ladyslaw Kruczek. They replaced Kapacki and vice premiers Eugeniusz Szyr and Pranciszok Waniolka, associated with much criticized shortcomings in the scientific, technological and economic fields. With the departure of Szyr, in charge of science and technology, the politburo includes no Jew for the first time since the communists took power in Kociolek, at 3a, becomes the youngi st man on the governing team, achieving the unusual distinction of winning a full politburo seat without a waiting period as alternate member. A tough Gomulka protege, he served as leader of the Warsaw party before moving last year to Gdansk on the Baltic coast. i i N .
