CORNELL NEW YORK (AP) Dane-Jng, singing and breathing kravily lo. over-oxidize their clood, the worshippers gradually work themselves into a trance-like peak of exultation. That's when "the barrier is tiroken," says Mallira "Kapo" Reynolds, a Jamaican artist and the hieh priest of a religion called Pocomania. Agriculture Coalitions May Arise WASHINGTON (AP) Dramatic changes in agriculture since World War U suggest that farmers will require outside help if they are to develop much punch. Whether the traditional farm organizations such as the Farm Bureau, F armers Union and the (Jrange can provide the necessary frameworks for effective leadership in this lield remains lo be seen. Rut it is obvious that the dwindling farm population from about 4ll million in 1!MU to around 10 million today cannot hope lo wield enough political muscle to gain a big-per say in Ihe operation of L'.S. agriculture. Farmers complain that they liave little bargaining power, that they are forced to accept prices determined by others for their products. Despite rising nrtfarmin-conie, farmers say their share ol l ' total cco:-i.:iy lags behind tht of urban workers and businessmen. In short, farmershowever prateful they may be for federal price support programs, payments and other benefits do not believe that they are as veil off as thev should or could be. Just what they can expect 'from the administration of President-elect Richard M. Nixon has not been definied fully. Nixon has promised changes in federal farm pro-prams and help in strengthening the bargaining power of farmers. Nixon suggests that farmer-owned cooperatives may play major roles in achieving this iRoal and implies that farmers' 'interests do not stop at ihe mail box at the end of the lane. Co-op people are excited over the possibility that they may rise as a collective, influential force that some claim has not existed among the traditional farm organizations. And some of these spokesmen think co-ops can gain support from farm-related business and industry the agribusiness field that embraces much of the marketing, processing and distribution of farm support. Or. Dale K. Hathaway, Michigan State University farm economist, told a group here recently that "mobility and change" are the new words in future agricultural politics. It appears likely, he said, that new coalitions involving fanners and agribusiness people outside the rural communities will replace the old notions of political influence based on f jrmers alone. 2 42 Lawn Serv., Landscap'g 11) USED CAR SALESMAN NEEDED AT ONCE!!! at . . . "Our religion is spiritual, the old-time religion of Christ and the apostolic age," he said. "We don't believe in sitting in church and letting the pastor do all the preaching and praying. The unity with lnd comes when the people find what's in themselves and show it. Pocomania, a name given to the faith by its devotees, means a sort of holy madness or release from ordinary mortal shackles. It was started by Kapo, which means leader, when he was a young man. j He's now 57. "The spirit overflowed in me at the age of 12," he said, and he began preaching at once, at first in regular churches, but in about five years he developed his own following, with their rapturous ways. In their rites seeking a close communion with the divine, he said, there is clapping, gyrating and shouting. "It makes us happy," he said. "There's a feeling of joy that God is with us and is doing something good in the world." He said that at the moment of breaking-the-barrier, a sort of semiconscious blissful state, "we know that man is not alone, that God dwells in us and is moving in us." It's a time when believers are inspired to "speak in tongues," he said. "Kven the uneducated are able to speak as if they were educated when that power is on, to tell about' Christ and how to live." They also give forth with what Kapo calls "the spiritual sound" a kind of deep-bodied "hmmph," or groan, which he said stems from the groan of' Jesus in distress over the dead Lazarus in his tomb. Kapo, now acclaimed in Jamaica and by many art lovers in this country for his painting and sculpture, said his art. work derives from religious inspiration. "I pray, It comes, up out of the spirit," he said. When he first started turning out his unusual works in wood and stone, with their aura of mysticism, many Jamaicans, including some of his own followers, strongly objected, he said, accusing him of practicing voodoo. "They believed I was violating God's laws with this kind of art," he said. "It was strange to them." Twice they had him arrested and fined. Hut that attitude has undergone a full turnabout. "Now everybody is doing this kind of thing," he said. "They like it now." Some Jamaican churches also used to be critical of his particular approach to Christianity. "They were agnst it at first," he said. "But since I've become popular, everybody's my friend." Train for a Career in Automation!. LEARN SOIL, sod, sand, shell, (ill Lots cleared.
