Engineers and production crewmen at the Colonnades Beach Hotel, where the show is filmed, reported Tuesday that 11 of them had received two-weeks notice that their jobs were being terminated. Included among those receiving termination notices was the show's master of ceremonies, John Bartholomew Tucker, according to Duke McGrath, an engineer. The rumble from dismissed crew members was in obvious contrast to a weekend announcement from MacArthur Productions that it has made plans for a series of projects to establish the Palm Beaches as a major producer of television shows. The company said that at least four new network shows are planned. McGrath said the ABC network had failed to renew the game show's contract, and this apparently was a factor in the production company's decision to lay off workers. McGrath added that the workers had been told that no more shows would be filmed after two weeks "unless something drastic happens." Art Stark, in charge of production, admitted the termination notices had gone out but denied that the show was to go off the air. "One way or another, it will go on. That's why I'm here, to try to develop something new for the show," Stark said. Crew members said Stark had also told them that rates tor use of telephone lines would be cut drastically Jan. 23 and a new major television network headed by Howard Hughes, the seldom-seen financier, might figure in the planning. They said MacArthur Productions apparently is trying to bypass the ABC programming department to keep the show on the air through intervention by the network president. EXCLUSIVELY YOURS. The new Mrs. Aristotle Onassls is considering home building in Florida, on property which she already owns in the Hobe Sound area, just up the pike a piece from Palm Beach. Oh . . . you didn't know the lormer first lady purchased the property two years ago? Then you weren't paying attention when Gold Coasting reported here, In 1966, that the Robert Kennedys and the Lady Jacqueline were seriously hunting for house sites "from Delray Beach to Jupiter. . ." A member of the Auchincloss family has assured us that the new Mrs. Onassls will be back In the States to spend Thanksgiving with her children. She telephones Caroline and John-John every evening at 8, to check on their health, school progress, etc. We have no way of knowing whether or not Mrs. Onassis and her hubby might make a quick flying trip south to take a look-see at the Hobe Sound site, but we do know that house plans most probably will closely resemble the architectural layout of the C. And you-all ever-lovln' readers might be a mite Interested to learn how the foregoing tidbits of information came our way, since there was involved an amusing at least to this columnist turnabout of circumstances with an almost 0. It seems some unknown smarty pants news reporter somehow deduced that the writer of our Gold Coasting column Is acquainted with the new Mrs. Onassls' family, and so said unknown reporter, a gal, decided to attempt a bit of dastardly duplicity which didn't quite come off.
