Palm Beach Post, Monday, Nov. 11, 1968 27 French Reds May Join Soviets 0ms esans visits from Soviet diplomats. Another communique, issued jointly recently by the Soviet and French communist leaders, had contained no hint of the differences between the two parties. Its allusions to Czechoslovakia were vague and general, including a condemnation of West German "Revanchists" and an en Mrs. Vermeersch had fought a lone and futile fight to get the party to support the Soviets over Czechoslovakia. The French party leadership Is known to be concerned also over the divisive influence exerted within the party by the Soviet and French Communist been showering party faithfuls with propaganda material and dorsement of the Soviet-Czechoslovak conference at Karlovy Vary last May 18. It thus reflected the view of the Soviets rather than that of the French Communist leadership. This joint communique stressed the importance that both parties attach to the forthcoming world conference of Communist parties. A preparatory meeting for this conference is to be held in Budapest. The French Communists have consistently supported the wishes of the Soviets with respect to the timing and composition of the world conference. The communique made it clear they will continue this support in spite of Czechoslovakia. IN STUART 47 E. OCEAN BLVD. 746 S. FEDERAL HWY. RIVIERA BEACH 1229 E. BLUE HERON BLVD. DAILY 8 A.M. - 10 P.M. Tinw NnnSrrvkr PARIS According to informed sources, the French Communist Party and Soviet leaders have accepted the fact that they are in fundamental disagreement over Czechoslovakia but will continue to work closely together for the benefit of the unity of the international Communist movement. Although he found the Soviets in a tough mood, French Party secretary Waldeck Rochet is understood to have told them that the French Party would not retract Its publicly stated disapproval of the Soviet-led Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia. This was reflected in a communique issued recently by the politbureau of the French Party. "Beyond the respective opinions of the two parties about events in Czechoslovakia," the comminique said, "the Moscow encounter will help strengthen the friendship and joint action of the French and Soviet Communist Parties." Rochet is described as being anxious to maintain the Impression of relative independence from Moscow while making it perfectly clear that a formal break between his party and the Soviet leadership in inconceivable. Hence his decision to let the previous denunciations of Soviet intervention stand while not repeating them publicly at this time. The French Party is going through a difficult period. Two weeks ago the deep rift within its ranks became apparent when Jeanette Vermeersch, widow of party leader Maurice Thorez and a veteran party member in her own right, resigned from the politbureau and the central committee. fit 'if 01 Merv Griffin Show inn 1 1 ii ii i ii n-innM! iAVnm m .i rr... . .in mil tim.m urn .iMi.V m ro.ii- mm,,:mJ y 8 0Z. - REG. 1.19 Vi OZ. - REG. 89 CLAIROL CLAIRE CARE DE PARIS Dippity Do REG. or X-HOtD Q 0 El D a a LlMIT-l .
