The foundation, started in 1982 by Nancy Brinker in memory of her sister, who died from breast cancer, is a national organization with a network of volunteers working through local chapters and "Race For The Cure" events, fighting to eradicate breast cancer. The Foundation is the nation's largest private financer of research dedicated solely to breast cancer. "It's a very positive organization to work for. We're working hard to see that anyone with breast cancer has the opportunity for a mammography and early detection," Gearing said. One avenue for money raised is the "Race For The Cure" event, which has become the largest series of 5K runs in the nation.
