ByValDlicott Palm Beach Post Staff Writer WEST PALM BEACH Misti Ehrlich, the woman prosecutors described as the catalyst for a botched execution that killed a 2-year-old boy, was convicted Monday of second-degree murder. ' Ehrlich leaned forward, closed her eyes and rested her head on her hands as the jury's verdict was announced guilty on two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder after about two hours of deliberation. ... Prosecutor Kirk Volker had asked for a conviction on first-degree murder, arguing that Ehrlich supervised a plan, conceived by her boyfriend, Robert Pransky, to kill Brian Goodine, Pransky's co-defendant in a drug case. "Although the defendant wasn't at the scene with a gun in her hand, she might as well have been," Volker told jurors. .. Ehrlich, 21, will go to prison for at least 40 years under state sentencing guidelines, but Circuit Judge Virginia Gay Broome could sentence her to life in prison without parole, Volker said. Sentencing is set for May 14. Warning flags will fly this week from Miami-Dade County up to St. Lucie County, cautioning beachgoers of dangerous rip currents that could last through the weekend, the National Weather Service said Monday. Moderate to strong gusts out of the east and southeast, which cause the powerful tides that can quickly sweep swimmers out to sea, should subside by Wednesday, said Shawn O'Neill, a weather service meteorologist. But the threat won't disappear until Sunday, when a low pressure system from the west will drag a cold front across the northern part of the state, allowing winds in from the south. J Rip currents in South Florida generally crop up m early spring, when westerly winter winds give way to gusts from the east, O'Neill said. IMPACT FEE foj IB fcounty commissioners are scheduled to discuss the issue in June. j Palm Beach County collected $33 million in impact fees last year from builders to help pay for roads, schools, libraries, parks and police and fire-rescue personnel. The county's impact fee review fcommittee, which is gearing up to reevaluate the Current system, considered Frisbie's written proposal on Monday. But advisory board member David Kier said he slants to keep the impact fee system pure and fo-tused: "There are too many people trying to get fees lowered." S Even board Chairman Christopher Brown, di Frisbie said that he has worked closely with county staff and county Commissioner Carol Roberts to try to come to some compromises. "Unfortunately what happens is, instead of our spending that time working on projects, getting the Palm Beach Day - Standi architecture even better refined, making certain we're attracting the right kind of people to this area," he said, "we're spending our time on impact fees."
