F10 Palm Beach Post-Times, Sunday, Nov. 10, 1968 t Shopping Here Has Own Atmosphere 9v2Z"'iv'.1 'XJ&VW "JW-1."!' "ffrw tains and exotic shrubbery of this plaza, you will see stores which are branches of exclusive New York retailers. Down to the other end of the fun scale In shopping: the county boasts one of the largest farmers markets In the West Palm Beach has a conventional shopping background of the usual "uptown" department stores and shopping streets. These stores have now branched out to the many satellite shopping centers in the county. state. You may never find a farmer in the stalls, but the many concessionaries carry more bargains and goodies than a big department store. All to the nose-tantalizing aroma of pizza pies and hot dogs. Shopping in Palm Beach County has an atmosphere all Its own. Where else can you hitch your car bumper to an orange tree in a shopping plaza? Not only that, when browsing amidst the plashing foun ' 3 iiftja: in -Si ft rv OH n ML- In spite of all the glitter and brightness of Its 87 stores, including three giant department stores, it manages to retain the Palm Beach touch by also having the country's largest Indoor tropical gardens complete with trees. Here and elsewhere, especially along Worth Avenue, the casual shopper is never surprised to find world celebrities shopping and browsing even as he does. Many of these people consider Palm Beach their home base. In 1967 retailers reported they had made sales of $895 million, a record; and a jump of $48 million over 1966. In the first four months of 1968, only one third of the year, sales recorded were for $381 million.. This Is a $47 million jump over the same period in 1966. It looks as If Palm Beach County merchants will be dln-g-a-llnglng a merry tune on their cash registers for 1968. The gain in the first four months Is already as big as it was for the entire 1967 year over 1966. Palm Beach has set a style for elegant living in the more than half century that America's leading families have selected it first as a "winter home," and now as a second and even first home. When these socially-elect families made it "their town," they were followed by the merchants and fine craftsmen who could supply jewelry, gourmet foods, fine clothes, art objects and the hundred s of expensive items which made for gracious living. To create the shopping atmosphere for this style of buying, the town planners evolved an old Spain aura to Worth Avenue and its many bystreets. This spread the length and breadth of the county. Near Boca Raton one can shop in a monastery-like Royal Palm Plaza that is breathtaking for its fine shops and presentations. In West Pa'm Beach, one can go to the other extreme and shop in the largest (87-store) entirely enclosed air conditioned shopping mall in the southeastern states the Palm Beach Mall. itnf I I 1. t TTTTfTTTmi.UUH"1 I I A 6tS rarVr7 trJaW nrn State's Largest Covered Shopping Mall Has 87 Stores Indoor Lagoon Delights Mall Shoppers siacioisi:ss , . . and so Is the $1.5 Million Housing Development Announced You get both in our new 3 bedroom FLAIR, and 4 bedroom SILHOUETTE models. m You can build a spacious 3 or 4 bedroom hom in a prestige neighborhood for as low as $23,500 including lot.
