She will be at Saks Fifth Avenue on Worth Avenue with her spring line on Friday. Clinique gets happy To celebrate the recent launch of Happy, Clinique's newest fragrance, the company delved into the science of the smile. (And for the first time in the cosmetic giant's 30-year-history, it used an actual human being a positively ebullient Kylie Bax to sell the scent. Usually, it's just product in the pared down ads.) Clinique's senior vice president swears it's goodbye to "emotional blankness" (think glum faced Calvin Klein kids instructing us to "just be") and hello to exuberance, friendliness and vibrancy (which they hope are the feelings Happy the fragrance conjures up.) Here, a few tidbits about happiness: B Chilly but cheery: A 1995 survey of 38 countries found Iceland residents to be the happiest, followed by those in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and (huh?) Northern Ireland. The U.S. ranked 13th in the happiness factor, sandwiched between the slightly more upbeat folks of Finland and the ever-so-slightly less jovial denizens of Poland. Least happy? Those from Russia, Belarus and Bulgaria. B Happy and healthy: Researchers at the Loma Linda School of Medicine say laughter boosts the body's immunity to disease and reduces the levels of stress hormones, which can weaken the immune response. Also, Harvard graduates who were more pessimistic when interviewed in 1946 were least healthy when studied again in 1980. Von Furstenberg womanly curves. Von Furstenberg will be meeting customers and showing off her new spring line at the dress department of Saks Fifth Avenue on Worth Avenue, Palm Beach, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. (Earlier, she will make an appearance at a private brunch in honor of the Young Friends of the American Red Cross.) For more information, call 833-2551. Vaseline turns 127 The folks at Vaseline recently called on Hollywood celebrities, famous designers, media types, athletes and politicians to find out how they used the company's venerable petroleum jelly, now 127 years old. Turns out, the trusty little vat of versatile goo has plenty of fans. (And of course, you needn't buy the name brand.) B Actress Elizabeth Perkins applies a small amount to her eyelashes and eyebrows. "I'm allergic to most mascaras, (and) it thickens and separates the lashes," she says. B When his lips are "very, very dry and nothing else will do," designer Isaac Mizrahi slicks on the jelly. "My mother taught me this years ago. B Glamour-athlete Florence Griffith Joyner swears she uses Vaseline "wherever I have skin." And hair and nails, too. Flojo says she softens her cuticles with petroleum jelly and uses it as a hair dressing. ft i if f LOOKING AHEAD J fit!., Indialucie Chapter, D.A.R. meeting 10:30 a.m. Thursday, home of the Regent.
