Palm Beach Post-Times.fcaturda.v, Nov. 9, 196811 TERMITES? CALL TOMASELLO 585.2551 FOR COMPint HST (ONTROJ SIBVICI MtMBf 8 Of TH NAllQfcAl ST CONtlOl ASSOCIATION GOP Veto Power Shifts To House By REX NEWMAN Tallahassee Bureau TALLAHASSEE (AFN ) A difference of three will be the theme song of Rep. Don Reed, as he leads the Florida House of Representative Republicans When Shopping Use P-T Classified DEPARTMENT STORES into caucus here at 7:30 p.m. Monday. The organization meeting of the House minority bloc precedes the convening of the reorganization session of the l9-70 legislature. The legislature convenes to select a speaker of the House and the president of the Senate and to set up committees. But Reed, who will be the leader of the House bloc again this session, will emphasize that the Repub 1 leans' ability to cap'ure three more seats in the H(use will make them the bloc to watch in the legislature in the coming two years. The reason is that the 1967-68 session had only 39 Republicans, one shy of sufficient strength to uphold vetoes of Republican Gov. Claude Kirk. Besides the Florida Senate had sufficient votes to uphold vetoes so the House Republicans Just were not In a position to be courted. Now that there are 42 votes in the Republican minority bloc and Senate Republicans appear to have lost their veto strength, the spotlight switches to the House. Reed and his loyal following will find themselves in a position of being the wooed, not the wooers, and as any woman will tell any man, there is a certain advantage of this reversal of roles. However, one of Reed's problems will be lack of experienced Republicans upon whom to rely for roles of leadership. Rep. Ray Osborne, R-St. Petersburg, left the House to try for a Public Service Commission seat. Rep. James Eddy, R-Fort Lauderdale, minority whip during the last session, lost in a primary contest.
