' J II (J ' f i M I 1 O I Even though winter sports are on the Increase, it goes without saying that many of us will be less physcialy active now that winter Is almost upon us. We just won't be doing tha things we've done during the spring, summer and fall. And this Is not all bad, providing we don't overdo our Inactivity. Winter Is a wonderful time for re-vitalizing intellectual pursuits that may have been neglected. Winter, too, offers its special charm by making your home more cozy In contrast to the windy blasts outside. But one of the biggest problems comes from food. Food can taste even better In winter. And one should not miss all' the treats, especially during the approaching holidays. But with winter and too little physical activity those unwanted pounds can creep up on you faster than springtime will ever arrive. So groan now, rather than later, and let's talk a little about discipline. The best way to keep track Is to weigh yourself regularly, at least once a week. Some people like to weigh daily but this can be a worry as you note fluctuations of a pound or two up or down. But If you weigh yourself less often, and at the same time of day each time, you should be able to spot trends that are important. A trend upward Is what you're watching for, for that's when there may be danger ahead. Remedy comes In two forms: exercise more and eat less. There's no other sensible, way. You can skate or ski. You can walk, even In the snow. You can go to dances. Join the "Y". Do calesthenics at home. Jog In place or outdoors when the weather allows it. There Is little excuse for not-exercising more, if you've a mind to. And you can eat less by beginning to keep track of what you're really eating. There are reliable calorie charts. But you will lose weight-wise If you keep your calorie level in line dally. Daily Councils, local medical societies, the American Dietetic Assocation, universities and colleges In your area, or the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture all these groups have reliable information on the calorie level you should follow and the fundamentals of good nutrition. There's no excuse for getting fat this winter. Mexican Fiesta Casserole A Mexican fiesta comes to life when the villagers arrive at the banquet laden with generous quantities of food. Each guest brings a special dish and places it on the table. Soon festivities are in full swing and dining becomes the center of attention. Today with Increased American interest in Mexican food, a traditional fiesta could be the keynote for your next party. Suggest a brlng-your-own Mexican casserole but make sure each guest will also bring along the recipe. An exchange of Mexican recipes could be exciting and educational. If a guest needs a little help in preparing a Mexican dish, here is a suggested recipe to try. The convenience of canned chili will lend itself to an excellent Mexican casserole. Simply add small pieces of sausage and chopped sweet peppers to canned chill con carne with beans. Top with a prepared corn muffin mix and bake. Serve with a tossed salad and a beverage. FIESTA CASSEROLE 1 box ( 12 oz. ) corn muffin mix 2 cans (15 oz.) chill con carne with beans Vh cups sausage, cut in small pieces 1 cup sweet peppers, chopped Prepare corn muffin mix according to package directions. Mix ail ingredients together and pour into a 2 quart baking dish. Top casserole with prepared corn muffin mix. Bake for 40 minutes at 350 degrees. Serves six.
