And yet, they wouldn't if they understood the role of an independent investment counselor. These are professionals who provide their clients with unbiased and continuous advice regarding their investments on a they offer purely advice or full portfolio management, too. Some firms require some $250,000 to $500,000 as a minimum account. Some will undertake to provide full services for accounts in the vicinity of $50,000 to $60,000 on the assumption that the portfolio is going to grow. A great deal of emphasis is placed on each Investment program to meet a client's specific needs, considering his over-all financial position and his choice in long-term objectives. This, of course, means that a client is asked to furnish in confidence a complete and accurate list of all assets and liabilities together with any other relevant information necessary to a full understanding of his over-all financial position. In the course of tailoring a specific investment program, investment counselors often provide broad advice to assist in total financial planning in such areas as taxes, estate planning, insurance and trusts. But their specific and continuing advice is focused on securities investments. And while there are a number of one-man operations, most investment counselors are members of firms, which engage heavily in independent research. This research identifies and specifies risks as well as opportunities, and from this stems one of the special advantages of an investment counselor he can advise on bubbles apt to burst and booms built on sand.
