He always sits up front with his chauffeur. A Cincinnati nightclub singer, Doris Kappelhoff sang her closing number, "Day After Day," to great applause and was seated at a table when the club manager sat down with her. "Kappelhoff has got to go," he said, adding, hastily, "No, not you. I mean your name. How about calling yourself Day, after that song?" Thus was born Doris Day, star of "The Doris Day Show," Tuesday-night comedy series. Perry Como, who headlines a Dec. 1 special will be celebrating his 21st year as a television star. It will also mark the start of his 36th year as a vocalist (a career he began in 1933). Country-and-Western music stars Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs have been set to perform their hit recording of "Foggy Mountain Breakdown," from the motion picture "Bonnie and Clyde," as special guest stars in a future episode of "The Beverly Hillbillies," Wednesday-night comedy. Kai Lansing is cast as Flatt's wife. The real name of mother-in-law Kaye Ballard, of "The Mothers-in-Law?" Kaye Balotta. The taxi that Bob Denver drives in "The Good Guys," is a 1927 Lincoln phaeton with an anchor for brakes and an hour-glass for a speedometer. Phyllis Diller remarked recently at a rehearsal: "I used to date a farmer who I really believed loved me-until he asked if I would stand out in his cornfield for a couple of years." Tony Franciosa, a star of "The Name of the Game," grew up in a Harlem neighborhood so tough that he had been studying acting for two years before he had the courage to admit it to any of his pals. Who in the world would leave a $30,000-a-year radio job to start from scratch as a film actor?
