McClure. Lt. James M. White of the Florida Board of Conservation, who has Initiated a safe boating program throughout the state, appeared recently before the Indian River School Board to request cooperation In this program. The school board unanimously agreed to participate In the program. McClure said he has been In contact with Samuel Hunter, principal of Glfford High School, and Stewart Carlton, principal of Vero Junior High School and both principals have agreed to allocate one or more of the physical education classes to the Instruction of safety on the waterways. The instructors and equipment will be furnished by the Florida Board of Conservation and will cover a one-hour period. Vice Commander Margaret Dixon of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 56, said "hats off" to the school board and Lieutenant White for Initiating this boat safety program. "The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary," said Mrs. Dixon, "has been working on this for two and a halt years to get safety on our waterways taught in the public schools.
