Lane also was a runner-up in the news photography category for a single photo of a fireman giving mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to a cat That photo was one of several that earned Lane the best photographer award. The Palm Beach Daily News Henderson won for his deadline reporting of Clinton's visit last year, and Michele Gelormine won for her feature articles about a high-profile Palm Beach lawyer and victims of Alzheimer's disease. In the large newspaper category, which includes the Post, the Dayton Daily News won the Gov. James M. Cox public service was murdered here in iyyt; ureg Lovett for sports photography of a 300-meter hurdler; staff artist Michelle Mazzone for page layout of Accent and Food section front pages; and Don Wright for editorial cartoons about President Bill Clinton and celebrity worship, among others. Judges voted Post feature writer Paul Reid, 48, writer of the year in the annual competition among 15 Cox Enterprises newspapers. . "Whether the subject is cigars, bacteria or airplanes, Paul Reid's writing is suffused with intelligence and verve," the judges wrote. Treasure Coast-based David Lane, 48, was named photographer of the year for his portfolio of spot news and feature photographs. "His photos fairly crackle with brilliant sharpness," the judges wrote.
