Jordan, making what might have been his final appearance in Atlanta, wowed the Georgia Dome throng at the offensive end, shut down Steve Smith at the defensive end and finished off by making a left-handed free throw when the game was decided. Scottie Pippen didn't play because of the flu, but Scott Burrell backed up Jordan with 18 points, only his seventh double-figure performance of the season. Brown's sprained left ankle is more severe than the Heat thought, forcing the team to place him on the injured list Friday. Brown, injured Sunday, is required to miss at least five games, making him eligible to return April 7 at Minnesota. Brown had never been on the injured list in his five-year career. "We were a little more optimistic the first day," Heat coach Pat Riley said. "We should have put him on the injured list (before Wednesday's game at Boston). We lost a game basically." That game is against Charlotte in one week. The move also was made to assure that Brown would not try to come back too 38 10-18 9-12 11 0-3 0-0 12 2-4 0-0 10 1-2 0-0 10 0-2 0-0 12 0-2 0-0 2 0-0 0-0 1-4 5 0- 2 0 1- 2 1 0-0 0 0- 5 0 1- 1 0 0-1 0 Phoenix 89, Washington 85 Portland 90, Sacramento 73 Totals 240 32-71 0-14 7 39 17 22 74 New York at Vancouver, late Percentages: FG .451, FT .571. Keith Askins (knee surgery) will start running next week and Jamal Mashburn (thumb surgery) is down to a protective splint. j Noteworthy: The Heat awarded 10 Palm Beach County students grants totaling $5,000 as part of a program to help students achieve their objectives. In all, $25,000 was awarded to 47 students from Palm Beach, Broward and Dade counties. ... Milwaukee already was without leader Terrell Brandon when leading scorer Glenn Robinson was injured three weeks ago. Since, Milwaukee has lostll-of-12. Milwaukee shot a season-low 30.9 percent, had 1 1 assists and 14 turnovers. Ray Allen, the team's leading active scorer, missed all but one of his first 11 shots and scored just seven points. : "You take three vital forces out of their lineup and I believe in those situations you got to play harder, you've got to give them your best shot early and try to get them to go away," Riley said. Riley altered his rotation, giving Conlon his first significant playing time since joining the Heat five weeks ago. "With PJ. (Brown) out I figured I might get some minutes," Conlon said. ," Conlon scored 48 seconds after entering, on a pass from Hardaway, who had 10 assists. "When I came off that pick-and-roll with Tim and hit that shot, that got me rolling," he said. Conlon was the first player off the bench in the second half, entering with 4:57 to play and staying on the court the rest of the half. Conlon took minutes from Terry Mills, who played just 10 (all in the first half) and was limping throughout. Mills, who has played six games sin e returning from the injureo ist, said his knee tightened Wednesday in Boston. . 240 36 62 26 32 7 46 21 II 99 Tot at Tetato 2031 1931462447 17 19 96 full seasons since.
