A4-Palm Beach Post-Times. Sunday, December 12, 1976 Christmas Will Be Dreamy For Students of Psychology students to realize that dreaming is normal," he said. "Even though there may be some dreams that are quite disturbing, they can understand them and there are ways of understanding them." course could accommodate only 20, Talbot said. He said dreams are a symbolic attempt to resolve life's problems. They reflect life's realities, expose inhibitions and "finish up unfinished business" that may go all the way back to childhood. "I would like to try to help it is important that Talbot said people dream. J L WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (AP) -Twenty students from Williams College will spend Christmas vacation trying to find out the stuff that dreams are made of. Dr. Eugene Talbot, a Williams College psychologist, has asked them to keep "dream logs" to prepare for a new course, "Psychology 13, Dreams and Dreaming," that will begin in January. They will bring their dream diaries to class for interpretation. "The major focus will be on the functional use of dreams in normal daily life," Talbot said. "The dreams recorded will be the basis of our study of their functional use." Interest was so high, more than 300 students out of Williams' total enrollment of 1,900 applied for the course. "It couldn't have been better luck," Charles Roemer, state commissioner of administration, said. His assistant, Joe Terrell, said, "It was a situation that could have been a real disaster." Roemer said the state, which activated two units of the National Guard to assist in the evacuation, would bill Allied for all costs. Flint said operations in the portion of the plant would be suspended "until we can find precisely the cause and how to prevent it in the future." A team of 15 company investigators was joined by several from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency. He said 600 employes of the plant would remain on duty performing cleanup and maintenance work. About 4,000 residents and 6,000 Southern University students were ordered from the area north of the plant, which is located along the Mississippi River. National Guardsmen also prepared to evacuate 4.000 inmates from the state penitentiary at Angola, but the cloud did not reach the prison. Sears GREAT GIFT BATON ROUGE, La. (UPI) -Three teams of investigators yesterday attempted to find the cause of an explosion at a chemical plant which spewed clouds of deadly chlorine gas along the Mississippi River Friday night, driving 10,000 persons from their homes. The gas dissipated during the night, permitting residents to return home. There were no reports of major injuries, although several Allied employes were briefly overcome at the plant. The Friday explosion at the Allied Chemical Co., described by plant employes as "a muffled thud," caused a split about 2-feet long and an inch wide in a 120-foot tall tank containing about 160 tons of chlorine. Gas continued seeping from the leak yesterday while newsmen toured the area, but company spokesman John Flint said the gap was virtually sealed. Minor repairs began on the tank. Dr. Haul West, a chemistry professor at Louisiana State University and an expert on industrial chemicals, said there would be "no long-range problem from chlorine on the environment" as a result of the leak.
