Jermaine Fowlkes led Fresno State (21-12) with 25 points and Chris Ilerren had 14. By Julius Whigham II Palm Beach Post Staff Writer FORT PIERCE The good news for Lincoln Park Academy's girls track team is that when the St. Lucie County track and field championships are held later this season, fellow Treasure Lake Conference member Vero Beach won't be invited. Track and field The Greyhounds turned in the top performance among the four St. Lucie schools competing Tuesday, but had to settle for second place as the Indians captured the girls team title in the seventh annual Cobra Relays at Lawnwood Stadium. Sebastian River completed the sweep for Indian River County, winning the boys competition. "This is the third time this year we've finished second to Vero in a competition, but we closed the gap by about nine points," Lincoln Park coach Wendell Adams said. "We're young and inexperienced, but a lot of girls came up big for us. We're looking to the St. Vero Beach junior April Marshall heaves the shot put at Tuesday's Cobra Relays. Fresno State's season of scandal, which included arrests, suspensions and substance abuse problems for some of its star players, was recently the focus of a 60 Minutes feature by CBS correspondent Mike Wallace. After the story was aired, Fresno State coach Jerry Tarkanian criticized Wallace for not being up front with him about its content. But at half time, Wallace, a guest of Tarkanian's, said he and the coach had spoken before the game and had "a very civilized conversation." The Gophers (19-15) left Jerry Tarkanian's club with only a consolation game remaining while advancing to play the winner of Tuesday's second semifinal between Penn State and Georgia on Thursday night in the final. "This loss really hurts because of all the adversity we went through," Tarkanian said. Minnesota, which won the NIT in 1993, is playing in its second straight national semifinals after making it to the Final Four last year. "We feel this is our Final Four," Gophers coach Clem Haskins said. Fresno State was done in by poor shot selection down the stretch and a costly technical foul late in regulation. With the Bulldogs leading 70-66 with five minutes left, Fresno State's Kevin Roberson was whistled for attempting to trip Quincy Lewis after a rebound. After Eric Harris made both technical free throws, Jacobsen hit a three-pointer to put Minnesota up by one. "The technical was the key point in the game," 'We're young and inexperienced, but a lot of girls came up big for us. WENDELL ADAMS. Lincoln Parkcoach Tennessee 76, North Carolina 70: Trailing in the second half for the first time in more than three months, the top-ranked Lady Vols stormed back from 12 points and beat the Tar , Heels in the Mideast Regional final at Nashville. Fort Pierce Westwood fell nine points shy to Sebastian River in the boys competition, scoring 90 points. "We had a couple of people missing so we had to adjust about three or four relays," Westwood boys coach Patrick Smith said. "We asked about three or four kids to enter about five events they'd never run before. But everyone pitched in and did a nice job. I couldn't single anyone out in particular, because then I would have to name them all." Lucie County Championships."
