Flex schedule. 622-4300 :y Y A r Ml during the summer, and he s responded by hitting all three f fjeld-goal attempts this season. But he's yet to face intense - pressure at UF ... at least in a game. - -' Early in two-a-days this fall, Spurrier put Chandler on the hot . seat. If he kicked a 47-yard field 'goal, his teammates would have -to run only half the usual gassers ,: under the hot sun. Chandler made it along fourth down,' " Spurrier said. "That attitude is not there anymore. We have a lot of confidence in Jeff Chandler." The Gators haven't had a proven kicker since Judd Davis won the Lou Groza Award in 1993. Spurrier tried to stabilize the kicking situation by offering scholarships to Robby Stevenson and J.T. Tucker in recent years, but Stevenson struggled and is out of the game, and Tucker instead signed a professional baseball contract with the Montreal Expos. That has forced the Gators to rely on walk-ons such as Cooper and Chandler. But no matter who does the kicking at UF, he has to fight the stigma that he's not always the most popular performer. "People in Gainesville are not real fond of field goals, but this year they can have confidence in our field-goal kicker," receiver Alex Willis said. "I feel it's three points on the board whenever Jeff steps out there." Of course, Cooper's teammates said the same thing about him before last season's Tennessee game. (Cooper, who now attends law school at Florida State, has refused recent interview requests.) With the Vols losing kicker Jeff Hall his replacement, Robert Loudermilk, missed his only field-goal attempt two weeks ago the Gators might have the advantage in the kicking game this time. "We'd be happy to break even there," Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer said. Chandler hopes this game rests on his right leg. "If it does," he says, "there's no doubt in my mind I'll make it."
