The mayor said the commission must also approve company renovation plans of the clubhouse before the agreement is final. He said a special commission meeting will be called within a week or two, so the plans can be reviewed. "They want to get in there by the first of the year," the mayor said. "You're not losing money there, Papageorge argued. "It's just mismanagement." Commissioner Charles Austin voted against the lease. "This is a real big step and we should think about it." That's one of the questions two Florida Atlantic University professors want answered. Dr. William Stronge, associate Srofessor of economics, and Dr. tayne Villemez, professor and chairman of the Department of Sociology and Social Psychology in FAU's College of Social Science, will undertake a survey with $23,000 from the Florida State Advisory Council on Vocational and Technical Education. - "We'll be looking at earnings of a selected number of graduates who have gone through certain vocational and technical programs in Palm Beach, Broward and Dade counties," Stronge said. "These are at the junior college level as well as in technical education centers. "We want to know whether this specialized education financed by government is helping disadvantaged Eeople. Does it mean better jobs at igher pay, or are they at a level that others have reached without going through the special schooling? "If the graduates of vocational programs who come from disadvantaged backgrounds end up as maids in hotels or in low-paying occupations, and if those graduates from these programs who do well would have done as well even without the programs, then the usefulness of the programs can be questioned." Some of the programs which may be included In the survey will be selected from courses which Include law enforcememnt, health and dental services, landscape technology, air conditioning and refrigeration, architectural technology, data processing, electronics, fire science technology and criminal justice. ; According to Stronge, the study will seek a comparison of income distribution in the respective fields between graduates and nonstudents and examine the motivation and aspirations of the students themselves.
