Page 14, Home for the Holidays Advertising Section Let the Stars be Your Guide to Gift-giving this Holiday Season Lift up spirits as you take down the tree Before the work begins, have everyone guess the number of ornaments on the tree, then give a prize to the one who finally comes closest to the exact number. Serve everyone a holiday cupcake with a candle on it for making a New Year's wish. If there's a "psychic" in the crowd gather 'round for some fortune telling. Remember that the warmth and pleasure of good hospitality is never out of season, and that with your own thought and imagination you can make the end of the Christmas season a special, enjoyable occasion. The Christmas season is the most joyous time of the entire year and it's always a little sad to see it come to an end. All the beautiful decorations are boxed away, favorite carols will not be heard for another year, children return to school and adults to their jobs and gray January sets in. One way to ease the melancholy of the passing season is to pick up on the words of a favorite Christmas song and reserve the 6th of January for a "Twelfth Day of Christmas" party. The tedious and depressing job of dismantling the tree will seem brighter when shared with relatives and friends in a still-festive style. likes and dislikes; play it safe and give them gift certificates! Sagittarians (November 23-Decem-ber 20) generally like to relax out-of-doors, so camping accessories or fishing equipment might be a good idea. Capricorn people (December 21-January 19) are hard workers who may not always take time to relax; encourage them to do so with a good book. Aquarius people (January 20-February 18) are often avant-garde types, so gift them with the latest in fashion or furnishings. Pisceans (February 19-March 20) on the other hand, are generally sentimental types and would probably love photographs of friends and family. Deck The Halls, & Walls, & All! In a quandry when it comes to giving gifts? Let the stars be your guide this season. Astrology might give you some clues as to what certain signs would be apt to enjoy. Aries, (March 21-April 20) for instance, are homelovers, according to astrologers, so a gift for the home would definitely be in order. Taureans (April 21-May 20) enjoy luxurious things, so how about a fine silk tie for him, an expensive perfume for her? Gemini people (May 21-June 20) are known for their active minds and would probably appreciate the latest word game. Moon children are under the sign of Cancer (June 21-July 20) and they enjoy entertaining, making a host or hostess gift most appropriate for them. Leos (July 21-August 21) also enjoy entertaining, being very sociable people so gift them with bar accessories. The Virgo personality (August 22-September 22) is discriminating, so whatever you give, make sure it's the best. Libra people (September 23-Octo-ber 22) are noted for their love of beauty and the arts . . . perhaps a fine print or classical recording would be the ideal gift for this sign. Scorpios (October 23-November 22) have very definite ideas about this season will result in a home that's merry and bright. many opportunities for holiday decorations. Greenery, with big red bows and streamers will make your fireplace the focus of the room. Even if you don't have a fireplace, a similar effect can be achieved by heaping a wall table high with garlands, candles, and streamers. Place greenery around any statues in your home, and if you have year-round candles decorating your home, put them in a festive mood by adding holiday bows. Don't forget the traditional mistletoe over a doorway, but this year add swagging as well. Even drapes can take on a holiday air, simply by adding bows with streamers along the top. A little more thought and effort Part of the fun of Christmas is in decorating your home in the spirit of the season. A gaily-adorned house says "Merry Christmas" to all who enter, so don't settle just for a decorated tree and a wreath on the door. There are many ways to decorate that you may have overlooked for instance, you probably have a mirror either in your hallways or living room; arrange holly or other greenery at the top of your mirror for a festive effect. If you have a 2-story home, you might consider putting a tiny second tree at your stairway landing; and swagging along the stair railing can be very effective.
