D22-Palm Beach Post-Times Sunday, December 5, 1976 Letters Prosecute Evaders In reference to your recent editorial "Draft Evaders" - if the president-elect can give a "blanket pardon" as promised, why not a "blanket prosecution" by the Justice Department, instead of showing mercy, as you stated? The deserters felt so strongly against the "misadventure," as you called the war, that they then decid ed to desert. At that instant they forfeited all rights to United States citizenship. And for the president elect, backed by editors as yourself, to simply "pardon them and wel come them back to our country is a travestv of justice and a definite slur to all proud Americans who have dedicated and even given their lives for our beautiful country and what we believe in. fnnnnnnnnn n nnn n MiMB Elm ffi!5 FURNITURE COMPANY It I ' I (J II J & W utf1 V TheLookf r For Tropical Elegance In Furniture As Voltaire is so often quoted: "I disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." It is disgusting to know there are those who would not de fend our country, or some less for tunate Deoole, for freedom's sake, and possibly not even defend our rieht of free press and all the many freedoms we enjoy and so often take for granted. When and if this "pardon" allows such cowardly acts to go unpunished, I certainly hope any prospective employer would have no need for hiring such deserters. Mrs. O.C. My car for one has been cut up several times. Please put this letter in your pa per so that something will be done. I do know that 15- and 16-year-old boys on bikes come in here and are not stopped by the guard. A man, whom I do not know, stopped his car and spoke to the guard about it and nspired by lighthearted resort furnishings. Bamboo got a very nasty reply. I was just going by and saw it all.
