Renner. former assistant sports editor of the Ft. Wayne (Inri.) News-Sentinel who assumed his new post In November, was here Friday, making arrangements for a mass flight of girls to Havana next Wednesday.

"Havana will be the first PGA Tournament for women outside the U.S.," stated Renner as he visited friends. Eddie and Betty Bush, at their home here. Betty, a member of the women's PGA, plans to limit her winter tournament schedule to the Florida competition so she can enjoy the season here. Today's tournament schedule is a long way from the four to six pros who played in four or five tournaments about 194K. Last year, members of the LPGA played in 28 officially sanctioned tournaments for a total of $153,200.

Both figures were records. But Renner claims this year will top last year. Already 21 events are arranged, but before the schedule is complete Renner says 30 to 33 tournaments will be crowding $200,000 total purse. Larger and larger purses are helping make the pro game attractive to the girls. Where Babe Zaharias led the money winners with $3,400 in 1948.

Patty Berg was tops last year with $16,497 and led with in 1954. The best ever, however, was Louise Suggs' $19,816 in 1953. The two biggest tournaments, moneywise, this year will be the Tarn O'Shanter which offers $12,500, and the Triangle at Virginia Beach, with $12,000. There will be about 20 of the girls, including the two locals Betty Bush of West Palm Beach and Kathy Cornelius of Lake Worth on the plane when it leaves Palm Beach International Airport at 8 a.m. Wednesday for Havana.

Following the $5,000 Havana Biltmore Open Feb. 3-5. the golfers will return here by plane, and the next event will be the. Serbin Open at Miami Feb. 9-12.

Beverly Hanson, the 1955 Ladies PGA champ, is expected here today to be a house guest of Eddie and Betty Bush. So is Mickey Wright. Blonde Beverly showed a lot of improvement last year when she pulled down $10,338 and ranked seventh with her Vare Trophy average of "6.07. Bill is asking all PGA members in the area to contact him and arrange to play in the one-day tournament. Earl (lark of Miami was low pro last year with a 67.

A dinner at the club on Feb. 16 will precede the event. Pairings and starting times for the final round in the 54-hole President's Tournament, sponsored by the Lake Worth Women's Golf Assn. at the municipal links, have been announced by President I a Scott.
