PAUL, Wl Bos ton's hurricane offense blew down the Minneapolis Lakers Tuesday night, 123-110, and swept the Celtics into a long 3-0 lead in pro basketball's world series.

It left the high-velocity Celts needing only one more victory to regain the National Basketball Assn. title they surrendered a year ago to St. Louis. If they whip the Lakers in Minneapolis Thursday night, they become the first team in the NBA to score a four-game sweep of the title series. With playmaking genius Bob Cousy engineering the fast break and Bill Russell forming a human Gibralter on defense, the Celts tore open a close game late in the first quarter and never were in real jeopardy after that.

Rnydrr. Sunburn was proving such a factor that some of the teams held night practice sessions at the Howard Park pool Tuesday In preparation for the Women's Senior National AAU Swimming and Diving Championships which Hart Thursday for three days. Most of the visiting aquatic stars have been training indoors, and the brilliant sunshine reflecting off the Howard Park pool water lanes was proving an occupational hazard. Among the teams holding night practice after a high school meet was concluded Tuesday was the University of Houston, a team of five freshmen headed by Carin Cone, Ridgewood, N. J.

defending champion in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke events. Coach Phill Hansel said he wanted his Houston swimmers to avoid too much sunburn but he also wanted them to become accustomed to the pool lighting at night, since the finals on Thursday and Friday will be nighttime programs. The Saturday finals will be held in the afternoon. Coaches of most teams agreed that Santa Clara Swim Club, which carried off team honors last year when the meet was held in Dallas, Texas, is a threat again, even without Chris von Saltza, who won two events and was on two winning relay teams, but is absent this year because of Illness. The 100 and 250-free-style events she is defaulting have now attracted the largest entry list of all.

Berkeley YMCA of California, which has talented Sylvia Ruus-ka as defending champion in the individual medley and 500-yard freestyle, did not arrive as early as some otner teams, nut is ex pected to be a team title threat, along with Riviera Club of Indi anapolis, which was one of the first teams on the scene. The coaches will hold a business meeting at 10 a.m. today at the pool, and Ben York, meet director, has called a meeting of his committees to go over final plans for the Thursday morning start of the meet. Visiting coaches and officials will also be entertained this evening at a party at the Seabreeze in Palm Beach. He had beter control than a trio of Wildcat throwers, but he walked three and hit two batters, and four of those five scored. In the sixth the Wildcats filled the bases on an error, walk and hit batter, scored two on another error, squeezed a run across on Jim Bishop's bunt, and then got the winning run on the Inning's third error. The earlier Wildcat runs were similarly tainted, coming after a walk, hit batter, midjudged fly ball, error and an infield hit. Wildcat Pitchers Mae Glar.e, Bruce Gruber and Jim Bennett all had troubles. Glaze pitched to 10 batters, walking five of them, then went to the outfield while Gruber pitched through the sixth.

Bennett started the seventh but was racked for a leadoff triple by Crusader Catcher a 1 Lavonia, whereupon Glaze was recalled, and he got the next two batters to ground out to him. while the third fouled out to Catcher Bob Sign. George Amick of Rhinelander, fastest qualifier for the race, was killed when his car somersaulted on the last lap around the 2V4-mile high banked asphalt track. Speedway officials said the extremely high speed prompted them to conclude that the engineering and driver know-how is not ready for this modern racing plant. They said a close examination should be made of driving and aerodynamic conditions at speeds between 160 and 200 miles an hour before speedway cars are sent into competition here again.

Wind tunnel tests should be made to determine if racing car designs and body styles could be improved, they said. While there will be no speedway car races, officials said the track may be used for individual tests by car owners and drivers accredited by the U.S. Automobile Club and by tire and accessory manu facturers.
