But the 20-year-old secretary and model from San Juan made it clear she is "very happy" to be the first Puerto Ri-Jan girl ever to win the beauty crown.

The 20-year-old green-eyed charmer said one of the "many" phone conversations she had during last night was "with her boy friend. "He was one of the pageant judges in San Juan when I won the Miss Puerto Rico title," she explained. "But he seemed very sad that I won the Miss Universe crown." She declined to identify him but it was apparent that his lack of enthusiasm stems from the fact that Marisol won't be spending much time in San Juan for the next year. The sparkling beauty said she is excited about the prospect of traveling around the world. "I think the best thing about being Miss Universe will be the experience of getting to know all those people all over the world," she explained.

Marisol won the crown by catching the eyes of more judges than the four other semi-finalists, who were Miss Japan, Jun Shimada; Miss U.S.A., Debbie Shelton, the first runnerup; Miss Australia, Joan Zealand; and Miss Argentina, Beatriz Gros. The 10 other semifinalists were Miss Brazil, Elaine Thompson; Miss Czechoslova- UPI Telephoto Awkward Bedfellows a crown, trophy and Miss Universe kia, Kristina Hanzalova; Miss Greece, Angelique Borlessa; Miss Guam, Hillary Anne Best; Miss Hong Kong, Mabel Hawkett; Miss Italy, Anna Zamboni, Miss Maylasia, Josephine Wong; Miss Switzerland Diane Jane Roth; Miss Sweden, Britt Inger Johanssen; and Miss Venezuela, Bela la Rosa. The new title-holder, who succeeded Gloria Diaz of the Phillippines, had finally stopped crying for joy over her victory. Tears had streamed down her cheeks Saturday night after she was crowned. 1 1 ipiu yt 1Cu Ft 9 lUnr Pnfr 30 in.

HUMPHRIES, inc. 202 DATURA W.P.B. Walsh's Freedom Sign of Liberty From Post Win Services VATICAN CITY Pope Paul VI yesterday hailed the unexpected release of American Bishop James Edward Walsh by Communist China as a "sign of better days for the cause of liberty." Walsh was released Friday after serving 12 years of a 20-year prison sentence handed down by Communist China on charges of spying. The pontiff, speaking to pilgrims in St. Peter's square, devoted his entire weekly blessing to the subject of Walsh's release and said the 79-year-old Roman Catholic bishop was a "testament of faith." The Vatican also announced that Pope Paul had sent a telegram to Walsh in Hong Kong in which he told the American bishop he had the Pope's "constant prayers and most warm greetings in Christ Jesus.

Withdrawal of Troops: Problems to Solve SEOUL U.S. Ambassador William Porter said yesterday bilateral talks underway on a partial reduction of American troops in Korea involve several major points to be tackled. He said these include reaffirmation of the American commitment to the defense of Korea, help in modernizing Korean armed forces and the presence of a substantial number of American troops after the planned reduction. About 64,000 American troops now are in Korea.
