CULVER Mr. and Mrs. Floyd W. Culver, 1114 Butternut street, Syracuse, N. announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Margaret J.

Culver, to Willard C. Thomas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis R. Thomas, 30 Oaklawn avenue, Lee Park.

The betrothal was announced at a party given by Miss Culver's parents at their home. Miss Culver was graduated from Blodgett Vocational High School and is associated with the Central New York Power Corporation. Mr. Thomas is a graduate of Hanover Township Memorial High School, Wyoming Seminary, and will receive his degree from Syracuse University in June. He has been prominently identified in football during his scholastic career.

J. McLaughlin, South River street, have returned from St. Petersburg, Fla. Frank Sahm, Williamsport, is spending Easter at his home on Rutter avenue, Kingston. Russell Jefferies, Pittsburgh, is spending the Easter week-end at his home on North Main street.

Mrs. Louis Haffett, Mrs. Morris Ageloff and Mrs. Robert Gallun entertained at a shower in honor of Velve Chernin, at the home of Mrs. Haffett, 235 East Market street, on Wednesday night.

There were 60 guests. Walter Greenwald, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Greenwald, 342 North Maple avenue, Kingston, has turned from the Children's Hospital at Mt. Alto, where he had been a patient for the last nine months.

His condition is improved. Misses Ruth and Frances Smith, 245 South Main street, Ashley, are spending the holiday week-end in New York City. Miss Evelyn Hannis, West River street, and Stanley Gould, Washington, D. will spend the week-end end guests at the Hannis residence in Allentown. Mrs.

Woman's Club To Study City Budget of Wilkes-Barre, interested citizens, will study the city budget at the second meeting of Wyoming Valley Unit of National Consumers Tax Commission to be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 at Chase Hall, auspices of Wyoming Valley Woman's Club. Mrs. Franz N. Rupprecht, president, will have charge.

There will a study of the tax dollar spent in Wilkes-Barre with charts as illustrations. Men or women interested in disposition of the tax dollar will attend. Any question that cannot be answered at that session will be given further study. A preliminary report of the committee which was assigned to visit City Council and the County Commissioners, at the last meeting, will be read and discussed. Easter ParadeGets The Cold Shoulder Washington, March 23-(P)-Easter parade hopes got the cold shoulder from the weatherman today.

He served up a forecast of unseasonably coldweather for all the country, except the deep south and far west. The east and mid-west may even have Easter, for the weather maps "inlicate threat of snow in those sections today and tonight. On the basis of the forecasts, the best bet to bundle in warm winter overcoat after you've donned your spring finery. Easter bonnets need not make their debuts under wraps, however. Generally speaking, the weatherman doesn't think you'll need an umbrella tomorrow, but he doesn't rule out the possil bility local precipitation.

Mrs. Millicent Arnold, of South Franklin street, is a guest of Mrs. Paul Hoiermann, in New York City over the Easter weekend. 85th Birthday Charles C. Shiber was guest of honor at a party held at his home, 188 North Washington street, on Tuesday evining in honor of his 85th birthday anniversary.

Sodality Plans Post-Easter Dance Blessed Virgin Sodality of St. John The Baptist Slovak Church of Miners Mills, have completed plans for a post-Easter dance to be held Tuesday evening, March 26th, at the SS. Turnbaugh, of Sugarloaf, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Monday. They are well known in WilkesBarre, having resided here until four year ago. Members of their immediate a family will honor them with dinner at Boyd's Restaurant, Kingston, Monday evening. Married in Conyngham, on March 25, 1890, Mr. and Mrs.

Turnbaugh resided in Wilkes-Barre on Hollenback avenue for many years. The former was an engineer at Prospect Colliery until 1934 when he retired, due to an injury. Two years later they moved to Sugarloaf to reside with Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Zehner, their son-in-law and daughter.

They are the parents of four children, William Turnbaugh, City Cemetery caretaker; Mrs. Mildred Walton and Mrs. August Claus, of this city; and Mrs. Zehner, of Sugarloaf. They have 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Club Plans Dance John Ryan has been appointed general chairman of the semi -formal dance to be held by the "Ranch Boys" Club at Hotel Redington on Friday evening, April 26. Ray Vitali is chairman. Members of the reception committee are Donald Siley, Nello Burian, Frank Calaguire, Fred Nichols and Alfred Burian. They became "really interested" in each other five years ago when Charles' brother Earl wed Gracie's sister Margaret. Miss Genevieve Liscavage has been selected to represent the Industrial Department of Wilkes at the National Y. W. C. A. convention in Atlantic City from April 10 or 16.

She will be one of three voting delegates sent from the local association and she will attend sessions of the 7 of the National Industrial Assembly held in conjunction with the convention. A club member for two years, she has served on the Executive Council of the Department, attended a Y. W. C. A.

Mid-Winter Conference in Germantown, and has studied at the Hudson Shore Labor School. Miss Marion Wint, North Main street, to spend several weeks at Miami Beach, Fla. Miss Anne Kunkle, New York City, is the week-end guest of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dale, Elder street.

More than 5,000 of Vassar's 10,000 alumnae are expected to return to the college for the anniversary celebration, which will begin on Friday, June 7, with alumnae and class day exercises.

Saturday there will be "open house" on campus. On Sunday there will be an anniversary convocation in the chapel. Purim Masquerade A Purim masquerade and entertainment will be held at the Talmud Torah on Sunday afternoon at 2:30. Children enrolled will take part. Prizes will be presented for the most attractive and most original COStumes, and refreshments will be served to the children by the Ladies' Auxiliary of Talmud Torah, by Mrs.
