A number of Nappanee people will attend the Bourbon fair next week. A good atttendance is necessary to success. Mr. Hite, the feather renovator, will move hie machinery from here to Bre men the la6t of the week. Mr.

Hite has renovated everything within reach of this town and has given satisfaction. Those of our people who attended the Bremen fair pronounce it better than usual, and give especial credit to the racing. A number of very good horsee were entered, together with an old 6teer or two, but the entry was not the fault of the association, but was the result of a great bg chunk of egotism on the part of the owners. On Tuesday morning just before four o'clock, the fire alarm rang out, and soon almost the entire town was at a large fire in George McLaughlin" barn. rhe flrev was the work of an incendiary, ho probably intended to burn out the entire block, as it is composed entirely if frame buildings in close proximity and dry as a tinder box.

The fire com nany responded nobly to the alarm and oon had the fire under control, but not intilthe north wing was practicall hurned up, and a horse and buggy belonging to Charles Robmugh, and veral sleighs and buggies belonging to ther partiee. That the fire whs of incendiary origin is pretty certain, as several of those who first reached the place, say there was a perceptable smell of burning coal oil. Three men and two dogs were sleeping in the ast wine of the barn, and the men were aroused by the barking of the dogs, and thus saved the lives of several fine horses No insurance, The culture of onions has taken a prominent place in the line of agricul ture in this vicinity, in the last three years, and is, this season, a source of considerable income, considering the limited amount of land upon which this tuber can be profitably raised. Mr. William Graham ia the pioneer in onion culture here.

Some three years ago he planted ten acres of onions and realized from them a hansome profit. Others followed in the business until this season there is almost two hundred and fifty acres planted to onions. They are grown only on muck land south and east of town, and the crop this seasor. will aggregate fully 90.000 bushels, the sale of which, at LOc per bushel, net. makes our onion farmers some 45.000 clear money.

The average yield is above 300 bushels per acre. Mr. Gra ham's average is COO bushels. He has already shipped ten car loads of GOO bushels each and will place 15 car loadt- in cold storage. Potatoes are also beinv raised at a good profit on this much land, which, when properly drained, will become the most valuable land in the state.

Ax entire Kentucky town turned out and lynched a negro on last Sunday, in broad daylight, within two rods of the county court house.

The coroner at once rendered a verdict of death at the hands of unknown parties. To complete the tragedy-farce that coroner ought to follow the example of the Mexican chief of police. The only differ ence in the guilt of the two was that the coroner was a party to the crime after the fact. Something must be done with the heathen Chinee right away. He goes to Mexico, for instance, c-ets rich, sends his money to China, crosses into United States territory, is arrested for violating the exclusion act, and 19 sent back to China at Uncle Sam's expense.

The remedy for this outrage is easy. Every Chinaman convicted of violation of that act should have his pigtail cut off. Then when he arrives in China, the populace will rise as one man and ex ecute him. Is a communication to the Warsaw Times, J. II Brubaker states that making the proper effort Warsaw can secure a college with an endowment o' $100,000.

ne says the United Brethren church has a 6tate membership of about C0.000 and is the strongest church in the etate without a college. A year ago the St. Joseph conference of this church held at L.Mgrang, favored an Indiann college, and appointed a committee to confer with the general educatiora' board at Dayton, Ohio. That board gave its consent under Ihs conditions of the d'cip'iri which calls for an endow ment of $100,000 The North Manchester factory owners who were recently burned out, threaten ed to bring suit against the town be-ause of the low fire pressure, and consulted one of the ablest attorneys of Wabash, who spent considerable time in an exhaustive investigation of the subject, and as the authorities were all against the theory of the factory owners it was retlved not to bring suit. It was learned by tho investigation that a city or town which owns and operates a system of water works is not liable in damages for tire loeees sustained through the temporary failure of the supply of water for fire purposes, furnieed by the vater works.
