OAKLAND TRIBUNE, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 18, 1937 CHOIR DIRECTOR FESTIVAL PLANNED Yule Rites: Sets Masses Set Sunday Marlowe to Lead Music First Baptist Services Will Feature Music In the sanctuary of St. Andrews The spirit of Christmas will predominate in song and sermon at fiiii both services of the 23rd Avenue Baptist Church tomorrow. The Rev.

William A. Fleming, pastor, will celebrate the solemn high mass at 8. This mass will be preceded by a procession of the entire Sanctuary Society and the blessing of the crib. A high mass will be offered also at 11, followed by benediction of the blessed sacrament. The Rev, Alvin P.

Wagner will preach at all the masses, his -tet taken from the Angelus, "And the word was made flesh, and dwelt amongst us." The altar boys' will be vested In white cassocks and red velvet capes. St.Andrew's Choral Society, under the direction of Miss Dolores O'Brien, organ accompanist, will play Christmas hymns at all the masses. At the high mass the choir will offer the "Mass of the Angels," by Gouber, Masses on Sunday, December 26, the Feast of St. Stephen, will be celebrated at 6:30, 8, 9:3041 nd 12:15. liPH III If Music to Be Emphasized Trinity Methodist Church, Berkeley, will observe the annual Christmas Festival torhorroW morning at 11 o'clock with appropriate music and sermon by the minister, Rev.

C. B. Sylvester, on "So Strange! So True!" Elizabeth Woods, organist-director, has selected for her organ numbers, "Aria in the 10th Concerto," by Handel, and "In' Thee Is Gladness," by Bach, The choral music will consist of two carols, "Sing, 0 Heavens," byffours, and Holy Night," by Adams, with Marian Kiloh as'soloist. At 7:30 p. rh.

Constance Willis Camp will present a dramatized Christmas story of her own composition, entitled "The Prince of Peace." Special Rites Planned at Home of Truth The Home of Truth, 1300 Grand Street, Alameda, will hold a special Christmas service tomorrow at 11 o'clock. Miss Alma M. Morse is to give an address on the subject "Christmas Glory." A special musical program is planned in which the traditional Christmas music will be rendered by a choir of mixed'voices and by Bobby Armstrong, soprano; Merlyn Morse, tenor; Carlton Hanson, violinist; Jack Buckley, cornet-ist, and Gladys Logan and Dick Bailey at the organ. Fearis), will be sung by the chorus choir and women's chorus under the direction of Harrison Ward, with Karl Gullander at the organ and Eugene Colby as violinist. The fallowing will be given: "Arise, Shine' "The Stranger Star," "The Angels' Song," "Song, Heavens," "Beautiful Star," "Awake, Put On Thy Strength," "Bethlehem." "Lead Thou Me On" and "Rejoice Greatly." Those who wijl participate in solos or duets are Earl Barnett, Sally Eggers, David McAdam, Dwight McKemy, Mary O'Bella, Harold Ring and Elly Russell. Rev. N. Nelson will give a Christmas message on "The Meaning of Christmas." At the 11 o'clock hour the Rev.

William C. Spencer will preach on. "God's Unspeakable Gift" i There will be Christmas carols by the choir, and the men's chorus will sing "We Three Kings of Orient Are." Harrison Ward also will sing Luther's "Cradle Song," and the musical program will close, with Holy Night" (Adam), sung by David McAdam. The Christmas-tree entertainment wiU be given by the childreh of the Bible school on Thursday night at 7:30 under the direction of Mrs. Paul Kroll; Mrs.

Congregational inging of familiar Christmas carols will open the service. Dr. Elmer A. Fridell will bring the Christmas story in Scripture. Music for this service will include "The People that Walked in Darkness" from he "Messiah," sung by Andrew Robertson, bass; "A Christmas Lullaby," by the Quartette; Mrs.

Laura Broderick, Mrs. Alice Lucas, Mr. Marlowe and Mr. Robertson, and the "Hallelujah! Chorus" by Handel. "Christmas in Every Heart" will be Dr.

Frldell's Christmas message lit the morning worship. During the Church School hour a White Christmas will be observed by the bringing of gifts for Christmas cheer. Selections from the "Messiah" will be sung by Mr. Marlowe, for several years the tenor in the Oakland annual presentation of that Oratorio, at the morning service. He will sing "Comfort Ye" and "Every Valley." The choir will sing "Jesu Bambino" by Pietro Yon, and Holy Night" by Adam.

Children will be featured in the Church School program on Tuesday evening at 7:30, when a pageant will be presented by the boys and girls, under direction of Mrs. E. J. Wooley, Mrs. S-QMorris and Mrs.

At 6 o'clock a fellowship supper will be served at the church.
