Page 16 Pharos-Tribune, Logansport, Indiana, Wednesday, Augusts, 1984 Indiana Report Interstate Truckers To Get Refunds INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) The state will have to refund million in state-imposod property taxes to interstate truckers doing business in Indiana. The Indiana Supreme Court Tuesday declared the truckers tax unconstitutional, upholding an April 1983 ruling by Hendricks Circuit Judge Jeffrey Boles. The taxes have been held in an escrow account since Boles' ruling, which ordered the state to repay the taxes along with any interest collected on them. In a unanimous decision, the state's highest court said the tax violates the interstate commerce clause by discriminating against companies that do business outside Indiana. "It is well established that a state may not, by its tax scheme, discriminate against interstate commerce and in favor of intrastate commerce," the court said.

RV Dealer Challenges Sunday Sale Ban ELKHART, Ind. (UPI) A recreational vehicle dealer, risking a misdemeanor conviction, is challenging the constitutionality of an Indiana law that bars the sale of motor vehicles on Sunday. Jerry D. Hobson, president of RV America Inc. in Elkhart, pleaded innocent Monday to a charge filed against him in a test case.

His attorney filed a motion seeking to have the longtime state ban overturned. The law has been upheld in the past by the Indiana Supreme Court. Hobson shut down his Sunday operations late last year when state police received an anonymous tip and ordered him to stop. He told the South Bend Tribune he believes the tip came from a competitor. Tavern Manager Helps Probe Boss's Death SOUTH BEND, Ind.

(UPI) tavern manager, who claims he was held hostage when gunmen shot and killed his boss, apparently has passed a lie detector test, police say. A detective said Tuesday investigators may now use hypnosis to help the manager recall details of the execution-style shooting of Harold A. Rowley Jr. last week. Rowley, owner of the sometimes controversial Corby's Tavern in the Five Points area near the University of Notre Dame campus, was shot early Aug.

1 just after he entered his home. The manager, James Eichorst, 27, later flagged down a patrol car and reported the shooting. He told police he had gone to the house earlier in the evening to pick up an unspecified item, and was surprised by men hiding in the house. Eichorst said he was then bound and blindfolded while the men waited for Rowley to return. Woman Charged With Murder EVANSVILLE, Ind.

(UPI) Police have charged an Evansville woman with the stabbing death of her boyfriend. Authorities said Rebecca Sears admitted she stabbed Phil McCray 35, Evansville, during an argument at her apartment early Tuesday. McCray, who suffered several stab wounds in the chest, apparently staggered from the apartment to a vacant lot nearby where his body was found about 4 a.m. by youths, investigators explained. EPA Cites Six Indiana Water Supplies CHICAGO (UPI) The Environmental Protection Agency said is has cited six Indiana drinking water supply systems that officials said did not meet safe drinking water standards.

The six systems were listed as Bremerton Trailer Park in Griffith; Fairmound Subdivision in Jeffersonville; Silver Lake Park in Angola; Warren Estates Subdivision in Vincennes; Franklin Village Mobile Home Park in Indianapolis and Edwardsport Water Utility in Edwardsport. Renner says he'll gladly give the Democrats copies of 16 years worth of license branch audits.

"We may find this administration has the most honest license branch managers in Indiana," Renner said Tuesday. Renner was responding to a request from Democratic can- didate for lieutenant governor Ann DeLaney, who asked to see all the audits conducted by the Board of Accounts since January 1969. The audits cover the 16 years since Republicans have been in control of the governor's office. With the exception of recently-performed audits that have not been officially filed, results of all audits already are available to the public under the open records law. "That's why I'm asking, as a member of the public," Mrs.

DeLaney said, "to make sure the public does get it." Mrs. DeLaney said she was requesting the audits because "there is reason to believe results of (some) audits are not being released before the elections."
