Ronald Lewis said he is a testimony to patience. Bruce LaSane used one word "great." Terry Anthony said he should have started last season too. The Fabulous Four took turns praising Florida State quarterback Peter Tom Willis Saturday after FSU's 57-20 win over Memphis State. For the first time, each of the Fab Four scored a touchdown in the same game.

"That was one of our goals and now we got it," Anthony said. It was Willis who made it all possible. He passed for 482 yards and a school-record six touchdowns. But nobody not Willis, Lewis, Anthony, LaSane or Dawsey would take credit Saturday. They each passed it around like they did the football hours earlier.

"I've got great receivers and a good offensive line," said Willis, who needs only 89 passing yards to surpass Gary Huff as the single-season record holder. (Huff passed for 2,893 yards in 1972). "They get open so easily and I just get it to them." Here's the Fab Four breakdown and their thoughts on Willis: LaSane had six receptions for 111 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown pass. "One word will do it for P.T.," LaSane said. "It's "Our offensive line also does a good job.

They give him protection and we do have great receivers." Lewis had three receptions for 87 yards, including touchdown catches of 12 and 59 yards. "He sat here for four years and waited," Lewis said. "He has shown us what hard work and patience will do for you. "Today was just a matter of execution. The coaches said we are going to throw it and we threw it." Dawsey had three catches for 56 yards, including a 26-yard scoring reception that put FSU ahead 10-3.

"He's definitely the best quarterback I've ever been around," Dawsey said. "He was getting hit and knocked down all day and he still hung in there." Anthony had the strongest words for Willis, saying Willis should have played instead of Chip Ferguson during the 1988 season. "I feel he never got the shot he hero Who else? When you throw six touchdown passes in one 'Half you deserve hero status. FSU quarterback Peter Tom finished 23-of-31 for 482 yards and a school-record six touchdowns. It was the highest passing yardage total in jichool history.

GOAT Memphis State's defensive i couldn't contain FSU's receivers. TURNING POINT i Memphis State's John Butler kicked a 29-yard field goal with 7:34 remaining in the first quarter to tie the game 3-3 before Willis completed a 45-yard pass to Bruce LaSane and a 26-yard scoring pass to Lawrence Daw- sey in a span of 1 4 seconds. The score gave the Seminoles a lead for good. SECOND GUESS In the third quarter with Willis just 26 yards from Bill Capple-, man's school record of 508 passing, why not let him set the record before replacing him? QUOTES 'We didn't really plan to Jhrow that much, but our first couple of running plays didn't gain much and the passing game was eating up BOBBY BOWDEN FSU COACH 'I really didn't care about the record. I wanted Brad (Johnson) Casey (Weldon) to get in there.

They deserve to play. I figured (the school record) was somewhere around 500 yards. I was surprised that they passed as much as they did. I was surprised when they came out throwing in the second half.

Renegade, the appaloosa ridden by Chief Osceola, galloped for the last time at Doak Campbell Stadium. The 23-year-old horse was retired during a halftime ceremony Saturday. Chief Osceola rode Renegade II during the second r.haif. HAGGINS EARNS HONOR: FSU nose guard Odell Haggins was named to the first team of Kodak's All-America team.

The Kodak team is chosen by Division l-A head coaches. AN ATTENDANCE RECORD: 'With 57,51 1 fans Saturday, the Seminoles set a season home attendance record with 368, 186 fans. That is an average of 61,364 per game. NEXT YEAR: Next season's State game has been moved from Memphis to Citrus Bowl Nov. 17.

Instead, he wanted backup quarterbacks Brad Johnson and Casey Weldon to get some playing time. "I know what it's like not to play," Willis said.

"I wanted them to get in there. "I don't regret it at all. I am glad (coach Bobby Bowden) stuck to what he usually does, letting me play the first series of the second half before coming out." For the season, Willis is 191-of-314 (60.8 percent) for 2,805 yards and 17 touchdowns. He should break Huff's school record against Florida Dec. 2.

For his career, he ranks third in school history with 3,814 yards passing behind Huff and Cappleman. Not bad for a first-year starter. "I know y'all are tired of hearing it," Willis said, "but I really don't care about records and publicity. I just want to help us win." The Fab Four would believe it. FSU freshman John Davis from Pahokee recovered a fumble on a Memphis State kickoff return in the second quarter to set up the Seminoles' fourth touchdown.

Then Davis intercepted quarterback Tim Jones stopping Memphis State's first drive of the second half. FSU and Memphis State each have quarterback coaches named Dickey. Daryl Dickey is a volunteer assistant for Florida State and Darrell Dickey is Memphis State's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Memphis State played Saturday without 15 players who were lost with season-ending injuries. The Tigers, who are serving the first year of a two-year NCAA-imposed probation, finished the season 2-9.

Notes Freshman cornerback Terrell Buckley intercepted two passes. On the first, he returned it 81 yards for a touchdown but it was called back by a penalty. On the second, he returned it out of the FSU end zone to the Memphis State 26-yard line but officials ruled a touchback FSU senior wide receiver Ronald Lewis now has caught a pass in 26 consecutive games NG Odell Haggins sprained his right ankle; Dedrick Dodge sustained a sprained lower back FSU junior defensive back Grady Ross was ejected after a fight on the Memphis State sideline during the fourth quarter Temperature at kickoff was 53 degrees. The award, said Walter Camp President Ernest C. Williams is presented annually to an individual associated with football "who has attained a measure of success and been a leader in his chosen profession.

He must have contributed to the public service for the benefit of his community, country and his fellow man." Reynolds has endowed to FSU a $1 million Burt Reynolds Chair in Professional and Regional Theatre. Reynolds has been inducted into the Florida State Athletic Hall of Fame and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters in 1981. "Burt Reynolds' contributions to his alma mater and the great entertainment he has provided to all of us since he left a promising football career to become an actor makes him extremely qualified to accept our 'Man of the Year' honor," Williams said. Seminoles quarterback Peter Tom Willis throws a pass during FSU's 57-20 victory Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium. Willis threw six touchdown passes against Memphis State.

Smith, Mark, Haggins on Kodak team The Associated Press ROCHESTER, N.Y. University of Florida running back Em-mitt Smith and defensive linemen Greg Mark of the University of Miami and Odell Haggins of Florida State are among the 24 players selected by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) to the Kodak All-America team. Complete team 26C Smith, who now holds 53 Florida records (19 career, 26 single season and eight single game), will travel to the New York Athletic Club Tuesday to be honored for being a first-team All-America. Which explains why Willis didn't care about breaking Bill Cappleman's single-game record of Mark and Haggins, both seniors, anchor the defensive line. Haggins has 93 tackles and 5V2 sacks. Mark has 14V2 sacks and 56 tackles. Moe Gardner, a junior from Illinois, Colorado junior Alfred Williams and Virginia senior Ray Savage are the other three defensive linemen.

"It's still a close game and we fumble on a first-down play and then on the following kickoff and that decided the game," Stobart said. On FSU's next play from scrimmage, following Cox's 2-yard run for a touchdown, Willis stepped up into the pocket and connected with Lewis over the middle between two defenders. Lewis spun away for a 59-yard score with 9:08 remaining. After an Anthony Moss interception, Willis hit a wide-open Lee down the right sideline for a 51-yard scoring play with 7:52 remaining. He hit Anthony on a slant pattern from 12 yards out with 1:55 remaining.

"It got to the point where we would run out there for one play and then run back (to the sideline)," Willis said. "I didn't believe we would score 51 points in one half. I thought we were Houston or something. It was fun. We didn't want to embarrass them though.

They played hard the whole game." In the end, Florida State didn't embarrass Memphis State. All the Seminoles could manage in the second half were two field goals by Bill Mason kicks of 44 and 21 yards. Johnson completed 5-of-8 passes for 53 yards andtFSU to- Willis throws 6 TD passes in FSU victory should have gotten," said Anthony, who had three catches for 55 yards (including a 12-yard touchdown). Amazingly, on Willis' first five throws of the second quarter, four were touchdown passes. Five of FSU's scoring drives consisted of less than one minute. "I couldn't believe it," Willis said.

"Everything happened so fast." Quick-strike capabilities On the first play of the quarter, he threw a 12-yard touchdown pass over the head of cornerback Reginald Jones into the hands of Lewis.
