4B THE PALM BEACH POST WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 1989 Area deaths Obituaries William Masin, leader of AIDS group dai am rniiNTY By ELIOT KLEINBERG Palm Beach Post Staff Writer A retired Air Force colonel and leader of the group that became the Comprehensive AIDS Program of Palm Beach County has died of complications from the disease. William Joseph Masin, 47, died Tuesday morning at his home. Mr. Masin was a periodontist, specializing in gum disease. His 17-year military and medical career ended in 1983 when he was diagnosed with AIDS.

He moved to West Palm Beach where, in 1985, he helped found the AIDS assistance group INFORUM. Mr. Masin became executive director and helped secure a mil lion-dollar-plus private grant for the agency, which in 1986 became the Comprehensive AIDS Program. He was also a freelance lecur-1 er on AIDS and wrote a published research project on the disease. Mr.

Masin is survived by a companion, David R. Patient; his parents, Frank and Theresa Masig; his sister, Cindy Tapper; and his brothers, Frank and David Masin. Interment will be at family cemetery in Lorain, Ohio, with a local "celebration of life" gathering to be scheduled later. People are asked to make memorial contributions to Hospice" of Palm Beach County and Hope House of the Palm Beaches. Britain, Conn.

FRANCES E. McCAVE DUVAL Mrs. Duval, of West Palm Beach, Florida, died Tuesday. Octobei 24, 1989. after a brief stay at a local hospital.

Born in New York City on November 4, 1918, Mrs. Duval was a graduate of the Acedemy of Our Iady of the Blessed Sacrament in Staten Island, and the College of New Rochelle. She first came to the Palm Beaches in 1942 when her husband assumed the manager's position at the Everglades Club of Palm Beach. Mrs. Duval was extremely active in several local charities and served as County Chairman and Stale Chairman for the Mothers' March of Dimes campaigns in the 1950 s.

In 195i she began a career as a professional photographer and her work appeared in national publications as well as The Palm Beach Post and the Palm Beach Daily News. She was a longtime member of the International Women's Fishing Association in which she held several offices as well as serving on the Board of Directors. In 1987 she received a special award of recognition from the organization. Mrs. Duval is survived by her daughters.

Valerie Duval and Dawn Duval Bat more. both of West Palm Beach: a son-in-law, Charles Barmnre of West Palm Beach; three grandchildren. Bradley, Heather, and Chip; a brother, Edward J. McCave of Brooklyn, New York; two nieces and four nephews. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 6:30 P.M.

Masin, age 47 of West Palm Beach, died early Tuesday morning, October 24, 1989 at his home from complications due to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. He was bom June 21, 1942 in Lorain. Ohio. He graduated from Cleveland's Case Western Reserve University and entered the Air Force. He furthered his education at the University of Houston in Texas where he received his Post Doctorate Master's Degree.

His 17 year military and medical career ended when he was diagnosed with A I in March of 1983. Dr. Masin retired to West Palm Beach in 1984 where he became active in the "Inforum" Agency. He subsequently went on to become the Executive Director of "Inforum" and was instrumental in securing grants for the agency, later to be renamed C.A.P. He was a freelance lecturer on A.I.D.S.

and was the author of a published research project. He influenced the lives of many people including his lover and partner. David R. Patient, his parents Frank and Theresa Masin; one sister Cindy Tapper; two brothei-s Frank and David Masin; their respective spouses and his extended family. He will always be with Betty, Jackie, Cindy and Michelle, and all the people whose lives he touched and shared.

Interment will be tn the family plot in Lorain, Ohio. There will be no services locally. There will be a celebration of life party to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribuiions in memory of Dr. Masin are requested to Hospice of Palm Beach County, Central Team.
