Probably the most impressive aspect of this thoroughly impressive production is the untrammelled zest with which the performers throw themselves into their work. Without the benefit of flashing lights, sets, or other theatrical crutches, they offer themselves in place of gimmickry, and those selves are so very adept that only boors and the blind could ask for more It ail goes back to the fact that there's absolutely no substitute for talent.

What's more, their enthusiasm is horribly infectious, and you're bound to leave in a far better mood than you had when you came in. It's a pity "From Israel With Love" will be presented on only one night, for even a sold-out auditorium couldn't accomodate all those who should see it. For an evening of unbridled fun and satisfying entertainment, this show can't be beaten JERRY RKNNIMiKH Musicals today are somehow intended to provide audienees with everything from sexual enlightenment to patriotic fervor. and comedv for the funnybone. and it takes very little imagination to see the selfsame show being performed in the desert for Israeli soldiers, which is where From Israel With Love" was born. The troupe is composed of members drawn from the now-famous Kntertainment Groups of the Israeli armed Forces. Since all able-bodied men and women must serve for two years, the rationale is that talented entertainers should serve by entertaining the troops on active duty. The young performers do wear their standard fatigue uniforms on stage, but the show is utterly nonpolitical and nonmili-tary.

But do they ever entertain. Since November they've been appearing in the same theater on Miami Beach, the U.S. being only one stop on a world tour, but their material is as bright and fresh as opening night. While a good deal of it is in the rock idiom, it is smoothly blended with more traditional Mideast and European fare. It should be noted that approximately half of the vocal numbers are in Hebrew, but this is no more a barrier to understanding and enjoyment than Italian is to operas.

Sitting in the darkened theater, one gets the distinct impression that these very professional youngsters could communicate just as well if all the lyrics were Mar-tain.
