The first National City resident to be chosen for the California Lottery's Big Spin didn't walk away as a millionaire, but is quite happy with the $50,000 he won. Rafael Cumba, 43, flew to Sacramento Friday afternoon for taping of the spin on Saturday morning. Before getting to the wheel, he was interviewed by a Los Angeles-area Spanish-language newspaper. Cumba, who speaks little English, was interviewed by the Star-News this week with his 15-year-old son, Francisco, acting as interpreter.

The National City resident said he has purchased anywhere from 10 to 15 tickets a week since the lottery began. He. said the only other substantial win he's had was a $50 ticket last year. The entry ticket which landed Cumba in the spin was purchased at 1 George's Liquor, one block away rom Cumba's home on east 1 8th Street.

After the spin on "Saturday, Cumba said lottery officials. took all that day's entrants out to dinner. He said the largest amount won that day was $100,000.
