Page 14 Edie Adams She's Out There Pitchin' HOLLYWOOD With spring rolling along. Edie Adams, television's third most recognizable personality (ranking behind Lawrence Welk and Carol Burnett), is on the road, appearing at cherry festivals, hyacinth rallies and other garden galas. She tosses smokes to the gents, playing the sexy, funny cigar lady from Hollywood who is accepted by wives because she's not a threat. Housewives' tolerance may sting Edie a bit, but continual renewal of her Muriel cigar contract is a soothing balm. The lady's humor becomes the pacifier, along with her familiarity.

By now, sport fans are conditioned to the inevitable Adams smoking commercials during the football and basketball season. Like the car com- mercial. Edie is part of TV sportscast. Year after year the same people watch Miss Adams do practically the same commercial, and they must enjoy it, because the sponsor doesn't dare change the formula.
