Florida State League Dodgers beat Expos in 14 By CARTER GADDIS Special to The Palm Beach Post WEST PALM BEACH Another comeback would have been criminal. The West Palm Beach Expos have come back, and come back, and come back the last three days, but they fell one comeback short Friday night as the Vero Beach Dodgers won a Florida State League game 10-7 in 14 innings. The Expos were come-from-be-hind winners of two straight prior to Friday's game. The Expos overcame a three-run lead to beat Charlotte 14-11 Wednesday and a six-run lead to beat Vero Beach 8-6 Thursday. But manager Felipe Alou's Expos couldn't steal another one Friday as Dodgers right fielder Tony Barron hit his fourth straight double to score Anthony Collier and break a 7-7 tie in the 14th.

Collier had reached on a fielder's choice. Dodgers second baseman Jorge Alvarez followed Barron's double with a two-run single that broke open the game. Dodgers reliever Jeff Tread-well (1-0) was the winner. Pete Young (7-2) was the loser in relief. The game was the longest of the season for the Expos: five hours, 35 minutes.

Ken Lake's two-run pinch-hit single tied the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth. Dodgers ace reliever Cam Biberdorf (13 saves) retired the first two Expos in the inning, but he walked the next three. Lake pinch hit for left fielder Joel Smith and grounded Biberdorf 's 0-2 pitch to left, scoring Fred Williams and Rob Fletcher. The Dodgers scored once in the 11th on Barron's second double of the night, but Lake countered with an RBI single in the Expos' half of the inning. The Dodgers scored three runs in the first off Expos starter Chris Pollack.

Pollack beat Vero Beach starter Albert Bustillos and the Dodgers 4-1 in the first game of the second half June 16. Friday night was vastly different for the 6-foot-5 left-hander. He lasted 3 innings and gave up six earned runs on eight hits. He also walked four, including three of the first four batters he faced. Bustillos pitched five innings and gave up four runs on nine hits.

A one-run triple by Jim Faulk and an RBI single by Rod Boddie in the fifth off Bustillos cut the lead to 6-4, where it remained until the ninth. The Expos answered the Dodgers' first-inning rally with a run in the bottom of the inning. First baseman Adam Terris doubled with two outs and scored on second baseman Rob Fletcher's single. Notes West Palm Beach catcherin-fielder Eddie Gonzalez, 25, retired from baseball Thursday. Gonzalez, who batted .084 in 32 games for the Expos, returned to his home in Miami.

St. Lucie wins 3rd straight 6-3 Special to The Palm Beach Post PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. Dozier continued his hot hitting with a single and a home run, and Dan Furmanik pitched 7 innings of scoreless relief to lead the St. Lucie Mets (3-3) to their third straight win in a 6-3 decision over the Charlotte Rangers (2-4) Friday night. Dozier, who has 10 hits in his last 14 at-bats, homered for the second consecutive night and for the eighth time this season.

His solo homer in the fifth inning closed the Mets' scoring. After picking up four runs in the first inning, St. Lucie held a 4-3 lead when Furmanik (6-4) entered the game in the second inning with the bases loaded and one out. He held the Rangers scoreless the remainder of the game on three hits, one walk and four strikeouts. The Mets play at West Palm Beach tonight at 7:05.

John Johnstone (8-3) will start for St. Lucie against the Expos' David Sommer. St. Lucie 6, Charlotte 3 Coolbaugh. LOB Seattle 5, Texas 10.
