Murphy hit a three-run homer in the first inning, his fourth of the season and his 200th in Atlanta, and had a two-run homer in the sixth. Gant hit his fourth of the season leading off the bottom of the first and had another in the third. Pittsburgh's Bobby Bonilla also hit two home runs, giving him 11 for the season. Cubs 5, Astros 1 HOUSTON Andre Dawson homered and drove in three runs and Shawn Boskie pitched a five-hitter in his major league debut as Chicago gave Houston its 12th loss in 14 games. "When he's hitting like this he can carry a team by himself. It helps the whole lineup when he's in a streak like this," Cubs manager Don Zimmer said.

"This is the best streak I've seen him in since I've been here." Dawson, who also doubled and singled, leads the majors with 41 RBI and the National League with 13 home runs. He drove in nine runs in the last three games against Houston. Padres 3, Mets 1 SAN DIEGO Roberto Alo mar hit a two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning and reliever Craig Lefferts got out of a bases- loaded jam in the eighth as San Diego handed New York its fifth loss in six games. The Padres loaded the bases on three walks, the last an intentional pass to Tony Gwynn with runners on second and third.

Alomar followed with a hard grounder that got past first baseman Mike Marshall for his second hit of the game. Greg Harris (3-0) pitched one inning for the victory. Cardinals 6, Reds 2 CINCINNATI Joe Magrane won his second consecutive deci sion and Tom Pagnozzi singled home the tiebreaking run in the seventh inning as St. Louis beat Cincinnati. Expos 6, Giants 5 (11 innings) SAN FRANCISCO Montreal took the lead in the 11th inning on pinch-hitter Wallace Johnson's two-run home run and held off San Francisco to win. Griffey singled with two out off Jesse Orosco (2-2), the fifth Cleveland pitcher. Martinez then hit his fifth home run.

The Mariners had 15 hits, including two doubles, two triples and the four home runs. "It was a slider that stayed in the middle of the plate and I hit it pretty good," Martinez said of the 2-2 pitch from Orosco. "This is a great feeling." Griffey, 20, has hit two home runs in a game on three occasions, twice as a rookie last season. Martinez's two-home run game was the first of his career. Seattle starter Scott Bankhead gave up three runs in five innings.

Bankhead was making his first appearance since April 13 when he gave up seven runs in 1 innings in a 15-7 loss to Oakland. Orioles 4, Rangers 0 BALTIMORE Pete Harnisch and Gregg Olson combined on a three-hitter and Baltimore gave Texas its eighth loss in 10 games. Harnisch (4-1) allowed only two hits through seven innings before Olson retired the Rangers in the final two innings to earn his ninth save. The two beat Kevin Brown (5-3), who surrendered only four hits in 7 innings, but lost his third straight decision. Mike Jeffcoat relieved in the eighth and gave up a three-run home run to Mickey Tett-leton.

Twins 5, Red Sox 4 BOSTON Kent Hrbek drove in three runs with a home run and single as oeat Boston for its 13th victory in 17 games this "I don't think I've ever seen anybody hit a ball harder than he does," said Kirby Puckett, who had a game-tying RBI double just before Hrbek's seventh home run. "He really mashed that one off the foul pole." Roy Smith (2-4) settled down after a rocky start and got the victory with sixth-inning relief from Terry Leach. Smith gave up three runs and seven hits in 5V3 innings. Leach gave up a run in llk innings and Rick Aguilera pitched the final IV3 for his 11th save, yielding three hits. Royals 4, Yankees 3 (10 innings) NEW YORK Kansas City outhit New York 17-2 but needed Kevin Seitzer's run-scoring single with two out in the 10th inning to win.

The Yankees, held to one single and an unearned run for eight innings, had rallied to tie the score on Don Mattingly's two-run homer with one out in the ninth. But with one out in the Royals' 10th, Jim Eisenreich and Mike Macfarlane singled off Jeff Robinson (0-2), the fourth New York pitcher. Pinch-hitter Pat Tabler grounded to third baseman Mike Blowers, who could have stepped on the bag and thrown to first for an inning-ending double play. Instead, the rookie threw to second for a for-ceout but Rick Cerone, a catcher who was playing second for the first time in his career because of a depleted bench, was unable to make the relay to first. Eisenreich reached third on the play and scored when Seitzer singled between first and second.

-m. By CARTER GADDIS Palm Beach Post Staff Writer WEST PALM BEACH The West Palm Beach Expos lost Sunday afternoon for the first time in 15 games, ending a team-record 14-; game winning streak. The. Baseball City Royals, in beating the Expos 6-2, accom-, plished what no team had been able to do since West Palm Beach lost 7-. 2 at Vero Beach May 5.

The streak fell eight games short of the Flori' da State League record of 22 set 1966 by the St. Petersburg Cardi-; nals. The longest win streak in professional baseball this season left the Expos (32-12) 5V2 games ahead of the field in the East Division. West Palm Beach manager Felipe Alou, whose team has won 21-of-25, didn't consider Sunday's loss a big' setback. "That was fun, to win 14 games, in a row," Alou said.

"We're going to lose some games. That's part of it. We had already lost 11 before the streak started." The Expos haven't lost more-than two in a row since opening the season with four consecutive losses. The success and makeup of the team has prompted Alou to call, it his best at the Class A level. "For the way I like to manage, this club is very good," Alou said.

"This is a club that everybody has to be used to be effective. This is a very difficult lineup to face, because they can all do everything well." Nine pitchers won games during the streak. Reliever Doug Piatt went 3-0, including Saturday night's 2-1, 13-inning victory over the Osceola Astros. West Palm Beach outscored its opponents 69-40 during the streak, an average of 4.9 to 2.9. Seven of the 14 games were decided by one run, and five were decided in extra innings.

There were two Expos shutouts. Alou said there was never any added pressure to continue the streak, but there is constant pressure to win. "Winning is the most difficult part of sports," Alou said. "It's hard just to win five games, or even one. We'd like to win everv pamp without thinking of a streak.

I just hope we can recoup immediately and come back (today)." Saturday night's four-hour game took a lot out of the Expos, Alou said. "We haven't hit well the last three games," Alou said. "We were very flat today, and I think you can attribute that to the 13-inning game the night before. But we still played great defense." West Palm Beach played errorless ball Sunday, but the Royals (19-26) scored four runs on six hits in four innings against Expos start-, er David Sommer (3-3). Expos re-, liever Jeff Tuss gave up two more runs in the fifth.

Expos reliever Bret Davis pitched two perfect innings to close-out the game! Royals starter Jim Hudson (1-1). got the win. "Our whole game plan has changed," Moseby said.

"We've got confidence in our hitting and our pitching staff has really come around. We're not worried about our offense." Tony Phillips was hit by a pitch from loser Wayne Edwards (0-2) to open the 10th. After Alan Tram-mell and Dave Bergman grounded into force plays, Cecil Fielder, who earlier hit his major league-leading 16th home run, singled Bergman to second and Moseby followed with his single. Ed Nunez (1-0), who pitched two scoreless innings, was the winner as the Tigers swept the three-game series. Mike Henneman pitched a hitless 10th for his 10th save in 11 opportunities.

"Our bullpen has done the job all year and Mike Henneman has been unbelievable," Detroit manager Sparky Anderson said. The loss was Chicago's third straight after a six-game winning streak. Brewers 5, Athletics 2 MILWAUKEE Chris Bosio pitched a four-hitter for his first victory since April 29 and Dave Parker keyed a five-run fourth inning with a bases-loaded single as Milwaukee beat Oakland. Bosio (4-2) broke his personal two-game losing streak in a stadium where the game-time temperature was 47 degrees. He pitched his third complete game and both Oakland runs were unearned.

"You've got to play them tough and try to have a mental edge on them coming in," Bosio said. "They can pulverize any pitcher they face. We had to pitch them tough, think one pitch ahead every time and not get lackadaisical." B.J. Surhoff gave the Brewers a 1-0 lead with his third home run of the season with one out in the fourth off Scott Sanderson (4-2). The home run came minutes after Oakland manager Tony La Russa was ejected by home plate umpire Jim Joyce for arguing balls and strikes.

Blue Jays 5, Angels 1 TORONTO Toronto failed to get a baserunner until the sixth inning, but ended a five-game losing streak when George Bell's tie-breaking single keyed a three-run seventh to beat Mark Langston and California. Langston (2-4) retired the first 16 batters before Manny Lee tripled with one out in the sixth and scored the tying run on Junior Felix's sacrifice fly. "I didn't think he had his best stuff," Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said. "He couldn't get his slow curveball over for strikes. I thought we helped him out by swinging at a lot of bad pitches." Mookie Wilson started the seventh with a single, Toronto's second hit, and went all the way to third on Langston's wild pitch.

Kelly Gruber walked and Bell singled for a 2-1 lead. Frank Wills (3-1) got the victory with lVb innings of two-hit relief. Tom Henke went 1 hitless innings for his fourth save. He walked two and struck out five. Mariners 8, Indians 7 (10 innings) CLEVELAND Edgar Martinez, who homered, tripled and singled earlier, hit a tiebreaking two-run home run in the top of the 10th inning and Ken Griffey Jr.
